Bungie did post earlier today on Twitter that if you try to do the bug after this patch you'll get booted to orbit and that bugged weapons will be reset to their default state.

Fortunately I got to stomp in trials with a shotgun AR. This included being able to apply exotic weapon perks and intrinsic traits onto legendary weapons. Some nuts weapons were made with boss-melting damage. permalink fedilink source parent
