An anime with a solid plot, good characters, good character development, great animation, etc. Basically, an all-rounder. I've already watched Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. What are some others?

I love 90% of the ending but this seemingly intelligent being letting himself drain to nothing

Father may be intelligent but he's not omniscient. Evil has a way of defeating itself.
