Do I have to purchase a domain to make an instance here? (sh.itjust.works)

I'm gonna ask my Abuelo for a USB so I can run Etcher and Yunohost for my instance. I want to choose the name craigsworld.net (like how lemmy.world's creator chose lemmy.world). How does the site naming through Yunohost work? How much does it cost?

Domains are cheap, shop around and get the cheapest 1st level you find, and buy a second level under that one.

For example, mylemmy.eu since .eu are by far the cheapest I can buy over here. It can go from 1 buck to 20 Buck per year, even more for special 1st levels (like .love)
