Incredible scenes on the pitch right now as Paraguay celebrate one of the biggest shocks in recent times.

Germany are out of the World Cup in the round of 32.

I played a lot of soccer growing up and had enough success to have potential for collegiate experience if I pursued it in the US. I have never understood why people two hand tossed it in front of them with backspin instead of just placing it for free kicks. Is there some advantage to it? I know certain types of balls were specifically placed a certain way because players thought the air valve position would make a difference. This seems like an exact opposite but also completely unnecessary. Is it just supposed to look cool?

The Iran Football Federation wants FIFA to prevent any “ceremonies or promotional activities” in support of the LGBTQ+ community at a much discussed “Pride Match” between Egypt and Iran on Friday in Seattle, as well as restricting symbols or representations of the Pride movement at Lumen Field.

Since Seattle was confirmed to have a June 26 World Cup fixture, the city’s host committee has been preparing activations to mark the occasion, with the match at Lumen Field fixed as Egypt vs. Iran following the draw last December. The Seattle FWC26 committee’s website has a page dedicated to the Pride Matchday and it is holding a Pride Match Day press briefing on Thursday.

FIFA told The Athletic on Wednesday it is permitting rainbow flags at all of its World Cup matches this summer.

Celtic FC supporters are calling on the Scottish football club to stop a reported £2 million ($2.68m) transfer deal for Israeli club Maccabi Netanya striker Jocelin Ta Bi.

Fans and activists say the club should not conduct any financial transactions with a firm based in Israel amid its ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip, as millions of football fans around the world rally in support of a sports boycott of Israel.

"This is not just an ordinary football transfer deal. Israeli clubs are not neutral sporting bodies," the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) said in a post.

"Celtic Football Club should refuse to do business with a team representing apartheid Israel - a regime committing genocide in Gaza, killing tens of thousands of Palestinians, including 800+ sportspeople, and systematically damaging or destroying all sporting infrastructure," PACBI added.
