It would also create an incentive for Chinese to build a trade corridor to Indian Ocean from southern China through Thailand much the same way the Chinese have been trying to do from Yunnan to Arakan for close to 2 decades but with much difficulty. However, Thais now have a competing project in the Southern Economic Corridor which began after Thai frustration with the failure of Dawei port project.
