I just noticed the extremely low price for the game from 2010, a historical low on Steam price for 2,99 € (and looks like in USD as well). There are still a few days left before sale ends. This is just a heads up for anyone wanting to get into the Civ series, this is an extremely cheap option of a very decent game. Lot of people didn't like Civ 6 and the current Civ 7 and therefore Civ 5 is for them the peak of modern Civilization game.

For anyone running Linux, game works perfectly fine. I played a lot.

Unfortunately this game is not on GOG yet (but other entries of the series is, weird). You can vote to bring it to GOG. In case you are interested into that:

I was reading the Promise Mascot Agency art book and it really illustrates (no pun intended) why AI will never be able to create art.

Art is a team process, created by people sharing their experiences and culture. It starts from the very beginning and lasts the entire project. Even simply using genAI to create concepts completely negates this.

For power saving measure, I'd like to let my windows 11 pc go hibernate even when a game is running. You know, just like Nintendo Switch and PlayStation does after 30 min of inactivity e.g. not touching the controller. There are many resources to NOT let the computer go sleep. But I'm looking for a way to do the opposite. I only do streaming games from the win11 pc using Apollo/Moonlight btw though. So I actually play games on another laptop.

Don't forget to dust your rigs yall. Especially if you have pets.

If Linus were to visit Mount Everest, he'd reach base camp, spend the next day criticizing the sherpas, calling them foolish for taking the well-established path, and insisting that a direct line to the summit is obviously the best option.

Bazite has solid onboarding, hardware support (including Nvidia and AMD), and, dare I say, even printer support. All things he complains about in this video. But then again, what do I know? I'm just a sherpa.

Hey all, sorry in advance if this kind of post isn't welcome in this community. I wasn't really sure where to post this question and I didn't see anything in the rules against text posts or questions. If there's a more appropriate place to post I'll take this down and repost somewhere else.

With the recent price hikes of game pass, Microsoft's general inability to publish good games, and a deep loathing for AAA studios obsession with milking me for every dollar I have while delivering uninspired, broken slop, I've cancelled my game pass subscription and started considering PC gaming. I'm still on the Xbox one and haven't bothered to get the one X due to these issues. I'm due for am upgrade and don't feel particularly thrilled at the idea of spending that much money on a console that has little to offer.

I don't have a lot of money, but I do have enough to afford a modest build (600-700 USD.). But with all the praise and broad support that the steam deck has been getting, I'm wondering if my money may not be better spent on getting one and using the extra for a dock, some peripherals, and a start to building my library. The steam deck would be living most of its life docked and plugged into a monitor. The fact that it's a capable portable gaming machine is, for the most part, a bonus to me.

I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this. Is a steam deck a viable alternative to a budget gaming PC?

I am playing through it for the first time and I know it has a rich modding scene so I'm wondering what is out there.

I would be curious about quality of life mods like bug fixes and graphical improvements. I'm not super interested in rebalance mods at this time.

That said feel free to mention any mods you've really enjoyed. I'd be interested to hear about those as well.

Please avoid spoilers. I am planning to play each game soon.

Damn.

10,000 puzzles and counting?

And I love puzzle games, but this seems excessive (but also tempting).
