Announcing the release of Exile v0.4.0!

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72m45MbtgcY

This is a major milestone release, resulting from about three years worth of work in our development branch. The game has been extended, polished, fixed, and some parts have been rebuilt from the ground up. It should be a much more polished and stable experience than ever before.

Changelog:

  • Widespread seasonal changes and effects, applied out to draw distance
  • A tutorial to introduce new players to the game
  • Many new biomes, trees, and plants
  • More complex plant growth and soil tracking
  • More intelligent animals, including the new Chichasa bird
  • Harsh weather can be exhausting to travel in
  • Dramatic new lava effects and behavior
  • New food recipes including breads, vinegar, and more
  • New crafting system based off rubenwardy's crafting mod
  • Crafting "spots" replaced with surface requirements or placed tools
  • More in-world construction and materials
  • Fewer bottlenecks in the crafting tech tree
  • Chairs to let you rest while sitting upright
  • New spawn system designed for Exile's specific needs
  • Three-button control scheme to reduce accidental clicks
  • Player settings and UI themes

And lots more besides!

We suggest creating a new map. Existing maps will work, but will have to be scanned into the new system, and will still lack a couple of (mostly cosmetic) things. Instructions to perform the scan are included.9

For mod authors: We have renamed the minimal mod to prevent collisions with other games and mods, our version is now called exile_game. A minimal mod is located in the utilities folder, and can be installed to provide compatibility for mods that aren't updated.

Inpsired by a recent post about extending Luanti towards SurvivalCraft, this is my favorite non-video guide to getting started writing Luanti mods.

There's some great video guides too, but I don't have those links handy right now.

Everything needed is free, and I think pretty well available on any PC platform (Linux, Mac, Windows).

I loved playing Survivalcraft back in the days. I was playing for hoyrs and hoyrs and it was a perfect game for me.. But that game newer came to pc, and newer had multiplayer..

So i wonder, how hard it would be to make survivalcraft clone in Luanti, and make it even better than the oroginal game.. 🤔

I think people would love it, and it would promote Luanti even more, not just like some minecraft copy, but as diferent game entrly and it would bring up true nature of Luanti game engine in which you can play diferent games..

Your goal is to loot all treasures of the known world. To win a level, you must find all gold blocks in it.

You can walk around the level freely and take, place and rotate blocks. Mirrors, bombs, color mixers, skulls and many other special blocks assist (or hinder) you in your task. Use your wits to activate detectors, pull levers, ignite bombs and barricades to eventually break all the locks and take all the gold.

It's my first time playing VoxelLibre. Found a Village but only one Villager :(. Is this normal or did I do something wrong?

Big news on our Luanti server, AES!

Take part in the beta, level up your weapons and reach the level cap (18) in order to obtain the "BL Betatester" title. Beware: progress will be reset once the beta ends

It took me ~3 years to plan this whole thing, I'm super happy this is finally happening 🥺❤️

I want to create some cool multiplayer games on a server (operating on top of VoxeLibre or Mineclonia) but am still new to Luanti. I am familiar with creating Minecraft servers and server mods (like Bukkit plugins) but am not quite sure what it looks like with Luanti.

I've been playing around with VoxeLibre and Mineclonia for a while now, and I of course understand that they are games implemented in Lua under the Luanti engine, but I am not quite sure if there is a distinction between "client" mods and "server" mods in the Luanti ecosystem.

I found the Luanti modding book, but it does not mention there being a difference between client mods and server mods.

What I am aiming to do in the mod is:

  • Manipulate blocks in the world
  • Run a timer that changes the world state every X minutes
  • Handle events (like lava place, etc.) server-side
  • Give players items
  • Introduce special mechanics for certain items (for example, a fishing rod which teleports you to the bobber location)
  • Spawn chests with items in them

This all has to be controlled on the server end, and I hope that it does not require clients to have a copy of the code since I am planning to make frequent updates on the server end only.

Does anyone know what the difference is between Voxelibre and Mineclonia?

It's been a great thing to have ContentDB where excellent games are hosted. So why not a map section? It would probably be more easier and accesible for more creators to make maps for different games which will enhance the player's experience with not only luanti itself but also specific games and mods.

Releasing on schedule again! Improved signs, item frames and maps will let you put whatever you need on display, mob spawning and structure generation should work better than before, multiple optimizations and reworks should make the experience smoother than ever, and you can behold the new textures and enjoy the improved sound effects by sitting or laying on the ground! And there's more.
