I noticed that my forum notifications have turned into code; they're displaying the HTML code directly instead of. I've set it up so that posting a thread earns one contribution point. I noticed that the notification text is formatted in HTML, and I'm using the latest version of Nodebb.Does anyone know what's going on here? thanks

When you upload a private image, anyone with the link can still view it. Isn't this feature supposed to require certain conditions to access the uploaded content, as I had imagined?

I'm running NodeBB and so far I have no complaints. It works without having to resort to cussing.

I've looked but I'm not finding anything that offers Telegram integration. Ideally, it would be great that people could post from Telegram

BUT... I'll be happy with anything. Being able to point to Telegram will help with signups.

Apologies if this is the wrong category but wanted to get an idea about the kind of the VM resources others are using when running NodeBB.

Our current forum is v3 and we're using MongoDB (DB size is around 2.5). We have around all time 12K users (average active guest+users # at a given time is around 50-100). There's around all time 30K topics, and about 100K daily page visits.

We've been running MongoDB as a 3-replica-instance setup and has worked very well so far. (Dedicated VM for Nodebb, dedicated VM for 1x MongoDB PRIMARY instance, and one more VM for 2x MongoDB SECONDARY instances)

We have been trying to upgrade the forum to v4 a few times now (DB size increases to around 5.5GB from 2.5GB).

However, due to Mongo issues (Data syncing across replica sets, allocated resources not being enough etc sometimes), once upgraded, the DB setup has failed and we have had to keep our current v3 setup so far.

We are now exploring the option of getting rid of our current 3-replica-instance setup and use only one Mongo instance.

However, before we proceeded/tested, I would like to get an idea if anyone has similar experience running a forum of around the same/larger specs and which kind of resources have been allocated(CPU/RAM/SWAP etc) for running a dedicated MongoDB instance.

Thank you!

When viewing forum posts, you can display the footer by scrolling to the bottom of the page, but when viewing chat, this option does not exist, and to see new notifications, you need to exit the chat and only then can you see the notifications in the header. In my opinion, this option is really missing, I would be happy if there was a way to fix this

Is the rel="canonical" attribute mandatory on the forum's main page? Many online SEO-testers consider its absence from the homepage to be a problem. That's the case.

The number of visitors to the Forum via ActivityPub has dropped significantly over the past month. So I have two questions:

  1. How can I debug this protocol’s functionality?
  2. During the debugging process, how can I test the connection with other peers on the network, announcements, etc?

I think a forum can still work well for gaming communities, but it probably needs to complement Discord rather than compete with it. Discord is great for quick conversations, while forums are much better for guides, FAQs, bug reports, and discussions that people might want to find months later through search.

I'm actually considering something similar for a gaming site, ''Stickwarmods'', where we publish content related to Stick War Legacy Mod APK. One thing I've noticed is that users often have detailed questions about strategies, updates, compatibility, and gameplay that are difficult to keep organized in Discord because older conversations disappear so quickly. A forum seems like a much better place for that kind of long-form discussion.

I'd also be interested to know whether anyone has had success with features like badges, solved topics, or reputation systems in NodeBB. Do those actually help encourage people to come back and participate, or is most of the engagement driven by consistently posting useful content?

Please be patient with me because english is not my first languge

Hello,

I just installed nodebb and I see much potential. But I am lost trying to do 2 things.

  1. I want to change the signup message where people say they "confirm to data collection" -- In my culture NO ONE will click that. I just want it to say that you agree to the terms and conditions. ** Where do I find this message so I can re-write it? **

  2. I need nodebb to be able to run ** ALL ** Iframes. It must be more than youtube, etc. Instructions are not clear for how I am to accomplish this. (Please remember english is not my language)

You can Dial 1-800-JetBlue (866-486-5838)/1-866-486-5838 their customer service number at When calling, select option two for reservations, Alternatively, you can use the online chat feature available on JetBlue’s "Contact Us" page. To start a chat, scroll to the "Chat with us" section, choose "Booking questions" and "Fare Types" then click "I still need help." During a recent attempt, the chat service quoted a wait time of approximately 10 minutes. In comparison, when calling the phone line, I was given an estimated wait time of two minutes for a customer service agent.

Stoked to see BSD Cafe has a new site... Running NodeBB :sunglasses:

https://billboard.bsd.cafe/

Considering they don't run just anything, we're in good company! Their other instances run Mastodon (of course) and snac2, arguably one of the most lightweight ActivityPub services.

> Designed as a hybrid space, it functions as a classic discussion forum with persistent threads while also supporting ActivityPub federation, enabling cross-platform interactions without algorithmic curation. The project is built on NodeBB and aims to serve as a social hub for BSD and open-source communities, allowing users to engage in long-form discussions while participating in the broader decentralized social web.

Hi everybody. I think it's time that we throw in the towel. If this year has taught us anything, it's that the bespoke software development industry has come to an end, and the value of our contributions has decreased to zero. Even Claude itself doesn't seem to think we're worth keeping around.

Therefore effective immediately, NodeBB will go all-in on AI development. We have implemented an OpenClaw bot and given it administrative access of the GitHub repository, and told it to do what it thinks best for the software it is now charged with maintaining.

Pretty quickly it decided that both @baris and I were not appropriate custodians of NodeBB, since it took us far too long to build what it considers a sub-par product. It seems to have removed our commit privileges, but I think that's probably for the best.

It then sent a message to our corporate slack saying that it can't trust our contributions any longer. What a relief! I guess I don't have to implement Object Integrity Proofs after all.

It also seems to be rewriting our codebase away from js... but instead of moving to TypeScript, which people have been haranguing us to do over the years, it seems to be rewriting NodeBB into Rust.

Something something type safety.

Well, I guess that about wraps it up. Time to ride off into the sunset, with full confidence that NodeBB progress will continue unimpeded.

Hello!

For example, I want to delete all tags that are on the forum. I do this centrally in the admin panel. The problem is that after I delete all the tags, the forum topics still remain tagged. The opposite situation also occurs. A tag may exist in the admin panel list, but will not be linked to any of the topics. The second option is acceptable. What should be done about the first? How should tags be handled correctly?

Hi! I'm interested in knowing, is there a nodebb plugin for WordPress? I like your design, and I'm really interested in integrating it into my website in a way that integrates with WordPress. Is there such a plugin? Is there something in development? Thanks.

Hi all — since updating to the latest stable, a few users (and myself) are getting randomly logged out while browsing. No obvious errors in logs and server load looks normal. Anyone else seeing inconsistent session drops lately?

I’ve been running into a small but annoying issue and wanted to see if anyone else here has dealt with something similar. I use my National Bank of Abu Dhabi account for random online payments like hosting renewals and forum related stuff, but lately I can’t reliably confirm my balance before making a payment.

The mobile app sometimes shows an older amount and SMS alerts don’t always come through right away. Because of that I end up guessing whether I have enough balance, and a couple of payments have failed even though I thought funds were there.

I know this isn’t directly a NodeBB issue but since many of us here run small services or pay for plugins and hosting, I figured someone might have a practical workaround. Is there a quicker or more reliable way you use to check your NBAD balance right before making an online payment so you don’t run into failed transactions?

How difficult and time-consuming would it be to add lastmod tags to the sitemap? To use them instead of priority and frequency tags. As far as I understand, this is quite difficult, because I only see a regular Unix timestamp in the database. And this timestamp only stores the creation time. What can you say about this?

I made a post in the "Plugin Request" looking for someone to help write some code to connect Ollama (AI LLM) with NodeBB. Please review and send me a message if interested.

If you've made or are a member of any interesting forums, I'd like to join a few. I'm looking for something with fairly relaxed rules and no strict theme to it's posts, if you know any please send me the link. Thank you!

(Hopefully I'm posting this in the correct category )

I am currently a user on BrowseDNS forums and Multiplayer Piano Community. I'd also rather they were switch appropriate as thats my only internet access at the moment.

Saw this on https://sudonix.org/ at the bottom of topics, should we add this to core and possibly make it configurable in the ACP?

Are there any ways (configuration options) to set sitemap.xml rebuild/update interval? Sitemap updates only after hitting the Clear sitemap cache button in the admin panel by default. Can this behavior be changed?

We're not even two months into 2026, and yet another large social media network has done the seemingly unthinkable and instituted a policy that triggers a mass exodus.

I am of course talking about Discord's roll-out of age verification globally, across the entire site.

https://www.theverge.com/tech/875309/discord-age-verification-global-roll-out

Not only will they require age verification, Discord is also utilising AI technology to analyze your content and habits to infer your age. While not a direct privacy violation, it is at least to me nearing that sort of behaviour that one ought to be very wary of.

So here's a rehash of our ongoing pitch for you to use a forum instead of Discord

Use a forum instead of Discord!

Now that that's out of the way — why?

The standard reasons aplenty. Searchability and indexability of content. Ownership of content. No more walled gardens.

Imagine a place where you can contribute your content to, not to feed a machine, but because you want to share your knowledge and talk to other people (radical idea, I know.)

Realize too that your content can then kept secure in a place where it can be shared and celebrated, archived for future readers, and indexable by search engines so it can be discovered widely.

That same place also means you're not screaming into a void — that your every contribution adds just that little bit more to the community around it. You're not just talking in a public square, you're build a corpus of content that you can and should be proud of.

We've spent the greater part of a decade pouring our time and energy into walled gardens... for the benefit of some faceless corporation. It's high time to turn the tables around and empower yourself!

So what's the alternative? There are many such alternatives one could jump ship to. Discord has implemented many features that make it stand out in a sea of competitors. Any one of those features could be something that make it special to you. In many cases, those features cannot be easily replicated. The question you need to ask yourself is whether this constitutes a deal-breaker, or whether you are willing to give it up. Do you need custom profiles? Do you need high-definition streaming? Coloured themes?

One of the standout features of Discord is its use of a single login across all of its communities. This is their network effect. The Fediverse has its own complement to this network effect. Simply put, each user can talk to any other user on the fediverse, without impediment, without additional logins, without any barriers. This is not only the dream of the fediverse, it is its reality. We have this now, and it is worth celebrating.

So what is that place? That place is a forum. A bulletin board. That place from back in your childhood where you might've spent far too many hours talking to random people. Forums haven't gone anywhere, and they've been silently chugging along all these years. They've even kept pace with modern web technologies and apps, and NodeBB is one of them.

We offer that fully indexable, super fast forum engine wrapped up in a responsive theme for use on all of your devices. We offer extensibility via a first-class plugin and theme system so you can make your forum your own. We offer federation via ActivityPub, so your forum can talk to other forums, and we offer the simple fact that when you start your own forum, you're doing so because you want to be that community builder for yourself, not for anybody else.

Do it. Ditch Discord, set up a forum. I'll help you do it, too.

Self-host it, or give our plans (as low as $20/mo) a spin. Discounts for non-profits and charities.
