We often tend to think of culture as "the way a group of people do things". For reasons relevant to conversations where culture is important (e.g. conversations about cultural appropriation), where would you say this starts and ends? Are cities able to present themselves as if one were presenting a culture (e.g. saying I am taking part in cultural appropriation for dressing like someone from Buffalo)? What about religions, disabilities, etc.? What about fictional cultures? Am wondering because the more I think of culture as being purely geographic, the more my mind thinks "wait, this can't be right".

Please inform me about them so I can lengthen my reasons to boycott.

My first post about this got deleted on other community idk why. I need help setting up piefed on my server. I actually done it but on development (localhost). How can i make it production ? i use cloudflare tunnel. I also want to change logo and name of the site. i would be happy if someone helped me. Actually my main goal is to create my own reddit alternative (like a kind of local social media site) on my country i want to combine blorp and piefed i don’t really want federation.

I heard the concept from the Electronic Frontier Foundation and It sounds like one of the end game goals for linux users. Imagine smuggling a €50 laptop component to see the free internet from anywhere on the globe.

Compared to 5.25" and 8" floppy disks, the 3.5" weren't very floppy. They didn't bend that easily, were stiff compared to the older formats.

Where there people who refused to call 3.5" floppy disks floppy disks because they weren't floppy enough?

Was wondering because, this time around, the football community seems to be diametrically opposite to the Lemmy/Piefed community. I was watching me some football when the booing happened, and the first thing I could think of was "looks like we aren't in Lemmy Kansas anymore". Do people here just not have a strong foothold in the football community? Or are we a minority?

Only thing we ask is show what it was like in your field 20 or more years ago, trying to get more traffic our way at: !askhistorians@lemmy.world . Anyone have any suggestions we are all years. I took it over from karmabot to give reference.

I find this very weird.

On one hand you got text, which is very accessible and very efficient and easy to translate for non-native speakers.

On the other, you got photos of text which is inefficient, hard to translate and not easy to read compared to just text.

So what gives? Why do people use photos of text instead of text?
