Unvanquished is a free, open-source first-person strategy game shooter, pitting technologically advanced human soldiers against hordes of highly adaptable aliens. Players can choose from either team, providing for an entirely different experience on both sides, as humans focus on long-range firepower while aliens rely instead on quick movement and stealth. The goal of each match is to destroy the enemy base, preventing members of the opposing team from spawning. Upgrades for both teams are earned by a combination of individual performance and team map control, unlocking access to more powerful weapons and equipment for the humans, and larger, more ferocious forms for the aliens.

I remember seeing news about it, but then It wasn't mentioned anymore. Even on wesnoth forums I just find the older discussions. Does any of you know if it's still happening, or if it was abandoned?

The OpenTTD developers have released a statement to clarify some confusion and misinformation on the Transport Tycoon Deluxe re-release from Atari. As covered recently on GamingOnLinux, if you want to grab OpenTTD from GOG or Steam now, you have to actually buy the classic Transport Tycoon Deluxe. This does not affecting grabbing it from their website directly.

It's a bit of an unfortunate change for the long-time running free and open source game, which is based on Transport Tycoon Deluxe but is entirely free (including their own sounds and graphics). However, the OpenTTD developers appear to be quite happy with how the situation has gone overall.

https://github.com/HarbourMasters/SpaghettiKart/releases/tag/1.0.0

The Harbour Masters team recently released a big upgrade for SpaghettiKart, their Mario Kart 64 fan-made PC port with a bunch of new features.

Like other PC ports of retro Nintendo games, you need to supply your own copy of the game as they do not supply the assets to actually play the games. Which is how they hope to keep Nintendo lawyers away. With the 1.0.0 release there's a new harder CPU difficulty, improvements to the camera, a better custom track system, performance improvements and much more.

Wildfire Games has released 0 A.D 28 “Boiorix”, a new version of the free, open-source real-time strategy game of ancient warfare. With one very important detail. 0 A.D. has been in public development since the early 2010s with numbered alpha versions. Now, for the first time in 16 years, with release 28, the team has dropped the “Alpha” label entirely.

Another major highlight of this release is the addition of a new playable faction: the Germans. This semi-nomadic group includes the Cimbri and Teutones, and features a flexible economy with supply wagons and fortified wagon camps.
