Press release - July 23, 2026

WASHINGTON - Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) Peace & Security Taskforce Chair Rep. Ilhan Omar and 10 other CPC members—Representatives Greg Casar, Maxine Dexter, Jesús "Chuy" García, Jonathan L. Jackson, Jim McGovern, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Mark Pocan, Delia C. Ramirez, Rashida Tlaib, and Nydia M. Velázquez—issued the following statement in response to the Trump State Department's release of the 100-page report, Cuba: Capital of 21st-Century Communism:

“Trump appears hellbent on taking America back 70 years to the height of Cold War McCarthyism, when hawkish foreign policy was paired with unsubstantiated accusations of communist subversion and political repression against dissidents at home.

“Trump has repeatedly threatened to take over Cuba and has deployed U.S. military ships to seize fuel vessels attempting to arrive on the island. And yet, in an Orwellian move, this administration now claims it is Cuba carrying out the ‘assault’ against the United States, by turning ‘Americans into instruments of their own nation's undoing.’

I've been thinking about the necromancer since getting my book and I think theres a lot of serious potential in the class.

Thralls strike with your spellmod which leads to many shenanigans including:

  • Instant flanking with puppeteer (create thrall lets you command them to strike)

  • Aiding yourself, esp. through gunslinger's Fake Out! https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=3161

  • Essentially being a legendary striker like gunslinger, operative, and fighter, but with delayed progression

The subclasses are interesting, but I think the top two are definitely Spirit and Blood. Blood helps you heal so you aren't a burden on the party. Spirit converts thrall damage to spirit damage, which is extremely nice if you get a Shining Symbol https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=3109

The potential for the class is immense, as said, you are essentially a legendary striker (via thralls) with legendary spellcasting at the cost of less spells. The big issue is its hard to modify your thrall's damage.

Some archetypes I think will be good with necromancer:

  • Marshal: go dread marshal to buff spell and thrall damage

  • Beastmaster/Cavalier/Undead master/Captain : A nice, pale horse would be useful as necromancers are actually quite strapped for actions. They have tons of reliable 3rd actions and most spells will cost 2 actions and a mount will give some mobility. Sharpshooter follower would be great too, ask your dm if they can be a skeleton.

  • Commander: There's a lot of synergy in the low level tactics and feats. I wouldn't say to go too hard on the dip here. The tactics that stand out to me are Passage of Lines https://2e.aonprd.com/Tactics.aspx?ID=5 and End It! https://2e.aonprd.com/Tactics.aspx?ID=9. Passage of lines has pretty good use cases, you can put a thrall behind an ally to yoink them from harms way. Imagine if you use 'ready an action' to make the passage of lines to go off once an enemy is winding up for a strike, poofing your ally. Commander also has some choice feats, especially DEFENSIVE SWAP https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=7798, which lets you sacrifice a thrall to take no damage from an attack. That one has immense potential and is an extremely strong effect on a necromancer. I think plant banner https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=7796 also has utility use for keeping your allies up.

  • Gunslinger: As said, you can lean into an aid build and go gunslinger for fake out. This is an extremely effective way to crit enemies early in the game, I would go gunslinger if my party was short on strikers. I don't think the other feats are very worthwhile, I'd probably take defensive armaments. We don't really want to be striking ourselves (only through thralls), a gauntlet bow will suffice for fake out. Plenty of ancestries help facilitate aid bonuses.

  • Bellflower Tiller: Tiller's aid https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=933 gets you something similar to Fake Out at a much later level.

  • Spellcasting archetypes like Hedge Mage and Wizard: These let you diversify your spell choices a little. There are many great new spells and I will share my idealized necromancer spell list here in the future. However, Hedge Mage is a new archetype and really stands out. I'll let the dedication speak for itself

At level 14 they also get community needs, which is an interesting way to steal an upcasted fireball or heal spell on some classes.

When it comes to ancestries, you'll have a wide variety of choices. I think the best ones for necromancer will be ones that help buff aid.

  • Elf: Has a lot of movespeed and flexibility if you do not have a mount.

  • Nagaji: Has a good aid feat.

  • Skeleton, Corpsefulk Heritage, Revenant background, Dhampir: Negative healing lets you take advantage of Necromancer's mastery of life and death AOE harms easily and it also means you are unharmed by your necrotic bomb

Starfinder has some interesting options too

I will share my spell and feat suggestions on necromancer soon.

A common narrative of tankies is that Russia meddling in elections, especially to help Trump win being a Russian asset and all, is all a hoax

Today's featured tankie is @hamid@crazypeople.online. Former admin @hamid@vegantheoryclub.org, instance that was on track to be the fourth Tankie instance of the Tankie triad before hamid shut it down because people were calling it out last year

A drop in replacement fork? No, I've thought about forking it and rewriting in C# (my preferred lang, which might also have the effect of attracting more contributors (C# has WAY more active open source devs than rust)) but historically political forks tend to flame out and I know I probably won't have the time to support it myself if it came down to it which is the only way to keep a political form from flaming out

That being said, the infusion of their ideology has generally been kept to a minimum in the actual code. There's certainly concerns, like how they made the modlog less useful and potential to steer people to .ml unfairly with the main Lemmy landing site. But nothing overt

They hate anything the west supports and support anything Russia/china hate

I have no doubt in my mind that if Israel was supported by Russia instead of the US and keeping all else the same, they would be simping for them instead

A few have, but it's been brought up before

Some don't want to because it's a "flagship" instance and ther fore has many old comms on it (But on that note, it's only by subscriber count, which never goes down unless a user actually unsubscribes from a comm, so .ml memes might have 50k subscribers, but the absolute vast majority of that is gonna be dead, deleted and maybe even alt accounts, if we go by Monthly Active User metrics like off of lemmyverse.net you'll see that very very few .ml comms still beat their non-ml equivalent.)

Some don't because of fear of retribution from dessalines or at the very least "slow walking" of any issues that might come up, not likely to happen with smaller instances. But if you're as big as say .world, then that could be a potentially huge problem and would be the exact kind of instance dessalines would choose to flex this retribution on as a message.

Some don't because they prefer to have their users decide for themselves (e.g. dbzer0.com) or have an alternative such as lemmy.zip's default block which block the whole triad for new users. Which is fair, there should be instances on the Threadiverse that are unfiltered for uh "Politically thick skinned users" but they should not be put forth to prospective users from Threadiverse advocates looking to bring users from reddit.

And then there are some that do, infosec.pub and Lemmy.cafe are the 2 that come to mind, but I'm sure there are more

There's a mirror for nearly every .ml comm of note, and in a lot of cases a few different mirrors across a bunch of instances.

For example, linux (in order of size) has !linux@lemmy.world and !linux@programming.dev and !linux@sh.itjust.works and !linux@sopuli.xyz and !linux@discuss.tchncs.de

I also crosspost all (good) .ml content to drive comm activity off .ml to non-ml equivalent comms and whenever I do encounter one that doesn't have a non-mo equivalent I make one

So lmk what .ml comms you peruse and I'll tell you the closest non-ml version or I'll make it myself if it has recent activity or you could also use Lemmyverse.net which is a fantastic tool for Threadiverse comm discovery

I don't think too many should, there needs to be visible pushback against their crap for new users

I also don't because 1) I'm crossposting all good content to non-ml comms to boost activity in those areas and suppress the .ml versions and 2) I document things here so they can't do what they want to do in silence and subtlety like they like

The term Tankie has a clear definition that Cowbee likes to ignore:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tankie

Tankie is a pejorative label generally applied to authoritarian communists, especially those who support or defend acts of repression by such regimes, their allies, or deny the occurrence of the events thereof.

    @mindbleach@sh.itjust.works summed it up perfectly

"Material conditions" are leftist-flavored "facts and logic." The actual concepts matter... but the people pounding the table about those phrases don't even know what they mean.

**Would you rather be advocating for socialism under milquetoast progressives who ignore you - or under fascists who want you skinned for moving pamphlets? **

**Would you rather be fighting for easier name changes as trans rights - or debating whether married women get to vote? **

Does any sane person honestly believe Kamala Harris would have handed Elon Musk a machete and pointed him at social programs? Or treated every federal institution like she bought them and they owe her money? Or bombed Iran despite this inevitable outcome?

Wouldn't your entire life be better, without Republicans in charge?

Not voting for the most leftist available candidate to you only makes the organizing you preach that much more harder. Unless of course you want the Tankie outcome, accelerationist bloodshed in the name of the revolution.
