On reddit I contact the modmail and any of the mods can see my message.

On lemmy in the side bar/commhnity-info I see list of mods and when I tap on them it takes me to their profiles where I could send a dm to them.

I am on Lemmy.world, and using summit.

Like a voice call, I think the elderly might have good Insight about life, and would be fun to talk to... I am not that young I am almost 40.

If I'm registered on a particular instance, say feddit.uk and I want to create a new community but it doesn't particularly fit on the instance on which I'm registered, am I able to create a community on a separate instance, say lemmy.world or do I have to first register an account on lemmy.world?

Was just presented with incest and an incest community browsing /new. I went to block it and was suprised to find I can't not see incest without going into the incest community to 'block community.' Is there somewhere I can feature request this or do I need to change clients? I'm on the default one. Thx

Is there any way to see which instances a given instances is defederated from? Ideal would be something like a sortable list of instances with a federated yes/no.

I'm curious about what Lemmy is like in other instances and that seems like a good way to get an overview. Plus it would be helpful to know that corners of the fediverse I'm missing

Not exactly new to Lemmy, but my search-fu has been noobish at best.

Lemm.ee would be shutting down at the end of this month, and while I've already moved to a new instance, I'm yet to do any archiving on my posts and comments. Is there an automated way to save my posts and comments.

Ideally, I'd want the archive to be:

• a full copy of all the posts including
  • the full OP text
    • any embedded images will be saved and included in the OP
    • outward links are left as is
  • all of the comments, including any deleted ones (deleted by the user and deleted by mods/admins)
• a full copy of the comments including
  • the full OP text of the thread in which the comment is made
  • the full tree up to the top-level comment
  • optionally including any deleted comments in this tree

Is this already a thing? I don't think I have the skills and the time to make one before June 23 (one week before the instance shuts down on June 30), so that is not an option. I doubt anyone can make it upon short notice either.

Is there any other method I can do this without resorting to manual saving? And if I have no choice other than to save each and every post and comment manually? How should I be doing it?

If anyone can suggest anywhere else I can crosspost this for better visibility, that will be welcome as well.

Does anyone know where the starred posts are stored? I have starred a couple of posts that I wanted to go back to but have no idea where they are now 😄

A couple of times I've tried making posts and got an error of "Lemmy: blocked URL". As the first time it happened was with a post with multiple links, I didn't know which site was the problem.

The second time with just one link, "Oh, it's Blogspot." (IIRC, a completely different blog, and on a different /c.)

• How can I find out which URLs are blocked, so as to not waste my time trying to post them?
• Who is it blocking them?
• • individual communities?
• • the instance of the community?
• • my instance? (lemmy.ca)
• • all Lemmy everywhere all at once?
• I guess I'm out of the loop, why is Blogspot blocked?

Is it possible to share a blocklist of communities based on themes? I would find a non English language list very useful, but as I said in the previous post blocking an instance like *.de or *.nl means interrupting comments by users in an English post. Instance level blocking means people who speak multiple languages (and I am one myself) are hidden from me.

But if this were possible it could also be used to block communities for topics I have no interest in, such as sports or all the software I never use announcing update releases. It makes tuning my feed a chore and I think this would improve the experience for everyone's tastes.

Hi. Recently joined and wondering if this is possible. There are many instances with country codes or top level domains, naturally content there is in the relevant language. German in .de for example.

However many users in these instances speak English and participate in other communities.

Could I filter out posts from non English instances without then interrupting replies in comments because the user is blocked by instance?

How can I link to a Lemmy post in a way that another Lemmy user that can view the linked page without the "You must log in or sign in to vote or comment" message (when they are already logged in)?

And vice versa: how can I click on a Lemmy link and not get that problem?

The exclamation point format is this:

[!communityname@instance.name](/c/communityname@instance.name)

As an example, mentions should look like these:

!newcommunities@lemmy.world
!communitypromo@lemmy.ca

This is especially relevant when promoting a new community in the aforementioned communities, as otherwise it's less convenient to visit and join your community. A standard link would take someone off-site to whichever site the community's on, instead of its copy on their home site.

Forgot to include this key point as I was writing and revising all this:
Include these mentions in your post bodies! Having it in the title of the post alone doesn't help, as it doesn't create any link to click or tap through.

p.s. when typing these mentions, the WebUI will try to provide suggestions to autocomplete, select the right one and it should do the trick. App interfaces will vary but should provide some method to do similar in their post/comment editors, either try typing the mention or looking for an exclamation point in the editor and following what the interface offers to help.

I am too new to privacy and only got FreeTube(PC) and NewPipe(phone) to run with alot of failures on better applications. Thats another problem Id need help with but primarily this post is about the feature included on this platform in the setting (screenshot).

Any idea how to get this to run that way?

Back in the day, introducing video posts destroyed facebook, a friends chatter platform, slowly but surely. Same fate with instagram, a photography/memory platform, getting into reels and videos.

Now if I go to reddit once a month to check in what the vibe is since my "detox" I realized.

Its all designed to drain. Drain your energy, your free thought, your long term happiness. Like not even hyperbolic, this is really scary.

And we all know thanks to the c/reddit community here on lemmy: Its full of this hidden but omniprersent corpo shilling, ads and corpo censoring.

So far I see no difference.

Say I'm on the page of a community and I'd like to search for something within that /c.

Looking at the /c's page (in a PC web browser), I see no way to search that /c.

Instead, I have to:

1. click on the search icon
2. find the box titled "Community"
3. click the down arrow at the end of that box
4. start typing the name of the /c
5. pick the right one out of several options
6. and only then finally do my search

Surely there's an easier way?

If not within the existing interface, then maybe... some browser extension or CSS hack?
