If it wasn’t Google I’d probably have got one. I got a Polar Loop instead. It’s got quite a few negative reviews because when it first came out it had loads of problems but it’s fine now. It’s not as cheap but from a reputable EU company.

Markdown is so annoying. I wanted to record a command in Joplin and had the audacity to make it bold to highlight something. Pasted it into their terminal and it put a bunch of asterisks in. Thanks.

I used to live on quite a large cul-de-sac and we knew most of the people, it was a really good community. Four or five times a year, and at Halloween and Christmas, we’d have street parties and everyone would come out and the kids would tear around and we’d put up tables with drinks and snacks which everyone would contribute to, though there was no pressure to pitch in. The WhatsApp group was really active and would get approx 30 messages per day, usually just people giving stuff away or asking where there kids were. My wife is really anxious about our daughter going missing usually but on that street she would come home and the kids would be playing and she’d jump out of the car and run off, and my wife was fine with it. There was always someone looking after them. We had to move because we wanted to be closer to the school, and we were renting and our landlord was a real problem, but we still get invited to the parties.

Our new cul-de-sac is smaller and it’s not the same but we regularly speak to about a third of the street and know the other third enough to say hello. People just don’t hang out on the street here like they used to at the old street, it’s more of a back garden place.

The whole competition they’ve been dragging the sport into the gutter. They’ve constantly been aggressively fouling as much as they can and they seem to have been getting away with so much there’s been a bit of a pattern. Lots of theories but I think FIFA saw this as an opportunity to break into the American market and wanted some drama, hence trying to get Messi into the finals for a dramatic finish. Early in the tournament Messi tackled someone and it should’ve been a red card but the ref didn’t even call the foul. The whole tournament for them has been overly aggressive tackles, pushing and shoving, shirt pulling, diving and general flouting of the rules and poor sportsmanship. It seemed like the ref in the final didn’t turn a blind eye quite so much and they finally got shown a red after literally hitting a player so hard he flipped upside down in the air.

Accusations of bias and terrible behaviour have folllowed them the whole tournament but they kind of became a talking point after they beat England and pulled out a flag saying that the Falklands are Argentinian which was a clear breach of the rules that says that political stuff isn’t allowed. Then it got really highlighted when they played Spain, who were disciplined and professional, against Argentina who were playing in their regular aggressive fashion, and the contrast just made Argentina look like a bunch of hooligans. Then when the game was over a substitute player ran onto the pitch to celebrate with the team and one of the Argentinian players punched him. The Spanish confronted him and the Argentinians escalated it multiple times.

in the end the Argentinians more or less became the baddies of the World Cup. This came the day after the Bronze game between England and France which was basically an example of excellent behaviour and sportsmanship (I don’t recall a single yellow card). After the match the teams congratulated each other and hung around on the pitch chatting and joking with each other.

    Edit

Also forgot to mention there’s a new rule where players aren’t allowed to cover their mouthes in an argument, in order to stamp out things like racism. If they do it’s an automatic red card. Messi tried to use it to get a Spanish player sent off for touching his mouth. It didn’t work but everyone saw Messi try it.

    Edit

My English here was terrible. Unfortunately it is my first language; at least you know it’s not written by AI.

So I’m in titration and I’m currently on Vyvanse 50mg. I’ve already tried methylphenidate up to around 60mg I think, but they just made me jittery. The Vyvanse doesn’t seem to be a whole lot better. I guess I feel ever so slightly better but it’s somewhat of an out-of-body experience and I feel the crash before the end of the work day. What I really wanted help with was my memory and context switching, and to be able to speak more clearly. I think that might have fixed all the other disorganisation issues, etc.

I’m considering asking to try the non-stimulant ones but I can’t really find anecdotal evidence of their effectiveness. Anyone tried them?

Our kids headteacher just sent out an email saying that they’re changing the school uniform policy. The head seem to have a boner for this as she’s been talking about it in emails for about a year, she actually sent out a potential new uniform about six months ago and it got absolutely panned. She’s finally just sent out a new policy saying that all the polo shorts will be changing from white to blue, they’ve got to have a uniform for when the kids go out to do messy play rather than letting them just wear old clothes, loads of little rules like how leggings aren’t allowed under skirts but tights are, and every kid now basically needs to have a ponytail and they’re only allowed blue hair bobbles to hold it in place.

So basically now all the parents have to go buy new clothes, including for messy play when they get their clothes trashed, and apparently this is supposed to help the kids somehow. There’s already a uniform but the head’s decided it’s not strict enough, during a cost of living crisis. I have no problem affording the new clothes but I know a lot of parents are struggling and the school has bigger problems, not to mention my kid likes picking out different colours of head bobbles, wearing leggings under skirts, etc.

I’m going to complain, anyone got any suggestions?

    Deathloop (feddit.uk)

I’ve just finished Deathloop and while I enjoyed it I gotta say it was the wrong kind of game for me and after hitting the ending I kinda wish I’d never started it. I wasted so much time trying to get through doors only to find out that it was just a door I went through later in the plot.

Plus it started feeling really claustrophobic just going through the same locations again and again, by the end I just wanted to escape so I could get a sense of closure. Then the ending happened and it didn’t feel fulfilling at all. It honestly feels like the game just stopped. It was just two endings, both of them being extremely short and “bad”.

I’m just ranting here but the end of that game was so unsatisfying.

I stumbled upon "From" on one of those YouTube channels that gives a synopsis of a whole TV series or movie in a fraction of the time. I started watching this one and decided I liked the sound of it, then when I saw it had reviewed really well I stop watching the YT video and went to watch the show myself. We're about half way through the show now and really enjoying it.

The premise in a nutshell is that there's this town and when people find themselves there they can't leave (because magic) and there's these creepy monsters that come out at night and try to kill everyone. People are fine as long as they stay in the houses but if they let them in it's game over. The monsters can make themselves look like people and they constantly try to trick people into letting them in. At the very beginning of the show a monster convinces a little girl to open the window by appearing to be her grandmother.

The show is very much like Lost only without the astronomical budget and it's got much more of a horror vibe going on. I'd heard absolutely nothing about this show and I don't know anyone else who's heard of it either. It must be doing quite well as they're working on season 4 right now. I feel like there must be some demographic somewhere where everyone's heard of this show, but it's not round here.

    The Traitors UK (feddit.uk)

The wife and I have been catching up on The Traitors because everyone at work’s been talking about it. For anyone who doesn’t know it’s pretty much the TV show of “Among Us”.

I normally give reality TV a wide berth but we’ve been absolutely gripped. Tonight’s episode was genuinely stressful and it was hard work watching, especially for someone like me who isn’t keen on confrontation. I normally hate shows where people are rewarded for basically being mean to each other but I don’t seem to mind this and I think it’s because the traitors don’t choose to be traitors, rather they’re chosen. I started off rooting for the faithfuls but now I think I like the traitors, they seem to have got some humility now.

I've been using Plasma for about 2 years now and one thing I've never really done is theme it. I use openSUSE and I just use the included dark theme and I don't find it that good. It doesn't look very professional and I sometimes find I can't see buttons because they're too similar in shade to the surrounding area. I've looked through the themes and I don't know if it's an openSUSE or KDE thing but there don't seem to be that many and some seem to give me problems when updating.

Can anyone share some success stories or inspiration? Where do I get decent themes from and which are the good ones? I know I won't be popular for saying this but I think Windows 11 is the best looking OS available right now and I'd like something that feels modern and sleek like that. Are there some tools I need to run fancier themes or make everything look better?

What are good games for getting into the spirit of Halloween? Like, games that double down on theming. TF2's always been my go-to game but I've been playing it for so long I'm pretty bored of it now and I don't really like PvP anyway. There's Overwatch which I expect has a lot going on but again I don't really enjoy games like that.

    Anyone got any highlights?

I loved it. After all the boring Marvel stuff I thought I was totally done with superhero movies. The way it began was so odd it grabbed my interest straight away and Superman had more personality than in all the movies he’d ever done while still being a goodie-two-shoes nerd.

Sorry to have to make a post about this but it’s one of those things you need to be familiar with and I’m not.

I’m looking to upgrade from a 2060 Super to a Radeon as I’m mostly using Linux now. I’m not too fussed about buying new and I’d like to keep the cost down but if I’m changing I’d like to by something noticeably better than what I have. Any idea what’s a good buy in the market right now? I don’t care about ray-tracing.
