Actually typing out code has literally never been the bottleneck. It's a vanishingly small amount of what we do. An experienced engineer can type out bash or Python scripts without so much as blinking. And better yet, they can do it without completely fabricating commands and library functions.

The hard part is truly understanding what it is you're trying to do in the first place, and that fundamentally requires a level of semantic comprehension that LLMs do not in any way possess.

It's very much like the "no code" solutions of yesteryear. They sound great on paper until you're faced with the reality of the buggy, unmaintainable nightmare pile of spaghetti code that they vomit into your repo.

LLMs are truly a complete joke for software development tasks. I remain among the top 3-4 developers in terms of speed and output at my workplace (and all of the fastest people refuse to use LLMs as well), and I don't create MRs chock full of bullshit that has to be ripped out (fucking sick of telling people to delete absolutely useless tests that do nothing but slow down our CI pipeline). The slowest people are those that keep banging their head against the LLM for "efficiency" when it's anything but.

It's the fucking stupidest trend I've seen in my career and I can't wait until people finally wake up and realize it's both incredibly inefficient and incredibly wasteful.

    No idea how you get any of that from the comic.

    • First panel, clearly being straight-up bullied. There really is no other interpretation.
    • Second panel, the kid is drawing in class? Okay? There are a ton of reasons that could be the case, and rarely is it something as simple as "he's acting up for no reason". Maybe the teacher is failing to engage the student. Maybe he has home trouble (which seems likely given the third panel). Maybe he's neurodivergent and isn't getting the resources he needs. It is irrational to expect every child to just automatically and magically conform to all of the norms and expectations of a classroom setting. That is a learned skill, and children learn at different rates and in different ways. It is the job of a teacher to meet children where they are at and give them the support they need to learn, rather than expecting children to simply do their job for them.
    • Third panel, he has a toolbox. I immediately interpreted it to mean that he's tinkering with tools in his environment. That is a trait that should be encouraged and nurtured (even if guidance towards less destructive outlets is needed), not met with anger. Exploration and learning how things work is absolutely essential for kids, and sometimes it takes missteps to learn. Destroying things is one of the many ways children learn about cause and effect, and it's a very natural impulse. It is a parents job to help guide their exploration and learning, and reinforce desired behavior, not to lose control of their own emotions and get angry at a child for doing their job. Like with the classroom setting, it is irrational to expect children to automatically conform to the ideals and expectations that adults have spent many years mastering themselves.

    It is very safe.

    • Chernobyl: was being used to create weapons-grade nuclear material (read: requires enrichment far, far beyond what's needed for power generation), and the USSR had been shown to have cut many corners in its construction and ignored basically every safety measure imaginable. It didn't even have a containment unit like every other reactor design (which is, you know, the exact thing that's designed to prevent leaking radioactive material into the environment). It is not comparable to any other nuclear power plant and is completely irrelevant when discussing the safety of modern power generation from nuclear power plants.
    • Three Mile Island was successfully contained (no significant radiation was leaked into the environment), and significant changes were introduced to prevent such a thing from happening again (and, nothing like it has ever happened since). It is the most frequently misunderstood nuclear accident, because it had no actual impact on the surrounding population in terms of radiological exposure.
    • Fukushima, similarly to Three Mile Island, was successfully contained and did not result in radiological exposure of the surrounding population.

    The fact is that nuclear power generation is incredibly safe and has an incredible track record through decades of use. It is far, far safer for populations than fossil fuels (which are known to emit much, much more radiation into the atmosphere and cause a lot of cancer), and is much more capable for baseload electricity generation than wind, solar, etc.
