Bloodborne was my first souls game. I sucked, as expected, and ran out of vials and bullets while fighting the blood starved beast, realized I'd have to farm before trying again, and just quit.

Picked up Dark Souls 3 on a sale and loved it, ended up going back to Bloodborne and loving it too. I do still think estus is a way better system than vials though.

Fwiw completely solo is doable, but I think you miss out on a decent amount of stuff, like companion quests and dialogue options and all that.

You could always recruit them to your camp and just leave them there for most of the time, though.
