I'm not sure why there's hate for Creality—my Hi/CFS combo has been great for me, with only occasional hiccups (in thousands of hours of print time), mostly from my inexperience (like not realizing my filament was brittle because it wasn't dry...)

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the K3 with KliTek pans out. Allowing for zero-purge multi-material printing with TPU, including multi-hardness printing, in particular. Being able to print soft parts with TPU with (cheap) supports from a material TPU didn't bond well with is super exciting, like slippers with durable 95A soles and softer 80A cushioning.

And, AFAIK, there's no printer right now that allows for multi-material printing with different hardness TPU.

    Citation needed.

    Steam is a privately owned corporation that has no need to justify their extraction of maximum profits to shareholders. There's no reason to expect them to risk destroying their incredibly profitable business to chase short-term profits.

    When you're vibe coding, you need to narrate long prompts, including things like "And remember not to hallucinate or make any errors." All that is a lot faster to say than type.

    Clearly, you're not vibe coding, and your job will be (checks notes) automated away by someone with a #grindset.

    I don't think that's a problem, but I suppose it depends on your goals. Facial recognition in low-light conditions is already hard enough of a problem that they, presumably, are not building IR-light-clothing detection into their algorithms. And if IR-blasting clothing becomes commonplace enough that they start working on it, then it's also no longer distinctive. So, if the goal is to defeat passive surveillance of your movements, this should be highly effective.

    If a human reviews the footage, then none of this likely matters anyway, since they'll be able to identify other identifying features about you—but that's a scalability problem. You'd need to have done something very "interesting" to be worth investing the time into tracking across hundreds of video feeds through a surveillance network.

    If your goal is to get away with a crime or actively resist detection while protesting, then this is (obviously) a bad idea to wear this. You should instead choose something as non-descript as possible, like all black, long sleeves, gloves, face mask, and tinted goggles. But you can't just walk around in public like that, in general.

    The article is very light on any technical details, so it's hard to tell if this is a big deal, someone misunderstanding the hypervisor method that's exploded this year, or just click bait. I'm going to assume click bait.

    Edit: the Lemmy.world post had a comment that explains this better than the article:

    ... An important point though: hypervisor cracks were available exclusively for Windows.

    Or at least that was the case until the “Linux breakthrough” was revealed yesterday, which gives Linux the ability to run Hypervisor cracks, and with modern CPUs, you can run the hypervisor cracks without even using a hypervisor.

    Support for Linux has to be implemented in the cracks themselves too, though I did read that DenuvOwO (de facto THE hypervisor cracking team) is backporting support to all previous releases :D.

    Of course nothing beats actual cracks but then again hypervisor cracks weren’t support to replace them, they’re supposed to ruin denuvo’s reputation by making games pirateable on day 1 of releasing. This will have a bigger effect now that the cracks are with tinkerers (Linux users) who wouldn’t mind a little setting-up to play their games.

    Right... but maybe the 5% is warranted, because of the ongoing collapse of American hegemony?

    We need Middle Powers to have leverage, and part of that will depend on being able to collectively stand up to military aggression from our "allies", let alone rivals.

    In other words, what is the likelihood that Canada faces an existential crisis due to having insufficient investment in our military, and how much investment is required to mitigate that risk? What's the cost-benefit analysis?

    I don't pretend to know enough to have an answer, but there are real concerns, not just posturing to placate a petulant would-be dictator.

    CachyOS has been great for me. Granted, I'm comfortable enough with computers that I can search to find answers to things, so I'm not sure if I rolled through issues that might challenge others, but it's been a fantastic experience. I switched about a year ago. Couldn't be happier with it, and I'd recommend it for anyone who's put off with the limitations inherent in running an immutable distro.

    I have a long list of complaints about the Carney "Liberals" (more like a PC party, imho), but his government leaning on his connections with European business leaders, bankers, and politicians to pivot away from America is exactly what I was hoping we'd get from this government. His Middle Powers speech was exactly the right message.

    The US is in decline, and they are no longer a dependable ally. We also don't want to lurch to a new geopolitical order dominated by China, or any single country, for that matter. By working together, we can keep economic and social progress despite the collapse of American hegemony and, hopefully, come out on the other side of this with a more stable world.

    But, Jesus Christ, Carney's government is making a mess of a lot of things domestically, eh? Still better than PP, but only because they aren't completely socially regressive in addition to being ruinously neoliberal.

    Every time I iron a print, I get a line like this, which I assume must be from nozzle drag; a dangling filament line wouldn't only be on the top surface, right? And, to touch, it's completely flat—no extra material is there that I can tell. It feels very slightly lower.

    I have tested on my Creality Hi and my friend’s Creality Hi. My friend’s Hi seems to work better with 0.97 flow rate, vs. mine at default 0.98, so the ironing calibration is different, but the drag line is almost identical. (It moves up or down by ~1-2mm between tests, but it's the same angle and length across the same squares.)

    Calibration is completed before printing.

    I initially thought this looked like wiping, but I disabled wipe while retracting to off (with z-hop of 0.4mm) and this still happens. In retrospect, that makes sense, since wipe while retracting should be like 2mm, not across an entire print like this.

    I then did some Googling and people online were suggesting bumping z-hop from off or 0.2mm to 0.4mm or even 0.55mm; I had 0.4mm already (the default setting), but I bumped it to 0.6mm (pictured above) and the drag line is identical. (Note that I forgot to take a picture before popping it off the plate, so please ignore the gap on the left. It was well adhered.)

    Others also mentioned dragging from over extrusion; this is a crazy thin print, too, so there's no way over extrusion would be causing z-level imprecision this close. And with my friend’s Hi at 0.97 flow rate, it’s slightly under-extruded, if anything (occasional tiny line gaps in some spots on first and top layers, but better than the fused joints I was getting previously.)

    FWIW, these tests were all done with JAYO basic PLA, but I get similar lines with other filaments when I use ironing.

    What am I missing? What's causing that drag line? It's driving me crazy, and my Google Fu is coming up with nothing. Any tips?
