$ORIGIN (or equivalently ${ORIGIN}) This expands to the directory containing the program or shared object. Thus, an application located in somedir/app could be compiled with

gcc -Wl,-rpath,'$ORIGIN/../lib'

so that it finds an associated shared object in somedir/lib no matter where somedir is located in the directory hierarchy. This facilitates the creation of "turn-key" applications that do not need to be installed into special directories, but can instead be unpacked into any directory and still find their own shared objects.

    Amnesty International Canada is opposing the project by Meta, which is anticipated to take up an area larger than Vancouver’s Stanley Park in Sturgeon County.

    I kinda agree with this, except the machine learning field should bear some responsibility for begetting LLMs. In particular, they got very used to the idea of scraping the internet for huge amounts of data needed for all types of models, and paid less and less attention to how much energy their training and inference was costing versus the value the models were providing. The seeds of the problems with LLMs existed before they landed on the scene.

    If the Zig community carves out a territory of principled engineering like this, I may adopt it as my primary language and make a career out of it. Finally an island of sanity in a sea of slop.

    On Tuesday morning, Attorney General Niki Sharma told media the province owes it to the community to prevent something like this from happening again.

    "The events of Feb. 10 will forever remain a dark chapter in our province's history," she said.

    She said the company failed to notify law enforcement of violent prompts the shooter made on OpenAI's ChatGPT platform ahead of the tragedy.

    "I think we were all shocked when we heard that there might have been an opportunity to prevent the loss of life," Sharma said.

    "These tools, AI and the risk that they pose to the public, it's our responsibility now as a government to make sure that actors that are putting these risks and these harms to the public are accountable."

    Using AI increases the risk that young children skip important ⁠steps in their education, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere told a press ​conference on Friday.

    "The most important thing in school is that our children ​learn to read, write and do mathematics," Stoere said, adding that the new standards will be imposed from the new school year beginning in late August.
