Yeah, I can see a use for smart glasses. Specifically in assisting the hard of hearing, those with partial blindness, maybe even people with other disabilities as well. But the upload of data and cameras recording people without their knowledge and consent is a problem. Not just a problem, but the problem.

But also our laws have a habit of not catching up to the reality of how people use tech to violate the rights of others and that really needs to be addressed. Not against consumers but against tech firms and manufacturers.

GPS, telematics(the driving data your car collects and sends back to the automotive company who built it), over the air updates, some SOS style features like OnStar, maybe satellite radio.

Edit: Maybe apps, and stuff like updates to the onboard owners manual (because some cars don't come with a paper one anymore). Oh. And using your phone as a key.

I wasn't going to buy PS4 but I got it as a Christmas gift from family. Same with my Switch. I don't use either one. Haven't used the PS4 in at least 2 years.

Yeah. My kid doesn't go to a school where they use computers or iPads this way, but I have to assume that lessons are done on device and therein lies the problem. Can't confiscate the device because then the kid can't do the lessons. So now teachers have to fund classrooms partially out of their own pocket, spend unpaid time outside school hours to do marking and lesson planning, and play IT. Teachers already have a lot on their plates without adding an extra burden that the administration should be addressing properly.

Probably not down to the teachers but to administration. When I was a kid we had computers (PC's or Macs) in some classrooms, but the caveat is that they specifically blocked most websites so if it wasn't on an approved list you couldn't use it. At some point it seems like they gave up trying to stay ahead of kids circumventing the blocks and teachers aren't spending time outside of class playing IT. They already dedicate a lot of unpaid time to grading papers and other extracurricular activities.

I can at least agree that teachers should confiscate or prevent students from using them if they provide more of a distraction than a help.

4GB ram is enough for a glorified Lemmy/PornHub device. I use a Redmi 4x with 4GB and a snapdragon 435. It's fast enough for modern mobile games (well barely).

Not anymore. Phones running Android 15 can get a full version of android rather than the Go variant but Android 16 and above require 6 GB of RAM or you'll have to use the Go variant.

At the end of the day the entire OS has gotten bloated with features and apps have gotten larger and more resource hungry.

On my device I have 5.2GB of RAM currently allocated to "System", and 2.9GB allocated to apps.

If ever there was an excuse to switch to a E/os or another legacy android custom ROM like Lineage OS.

Because with only 4GB of RAM you're not going to get the performance you want because the operating system for newer phones takes up so much of that RAM usage.

What you're doing right now seems like you're attempting to push your hardware beyond it's limitations to run software that your phone isn't specced for.

Google generally gets around this by providing a lighter weight version of their OS for bottom tier specced phones with Android GO, and budget phones were a lot of the reason they tried this.

It's either that or, you have settings configured in such a way that when you close certain apps they aren't persistent in memory (which makes sense with a budget phone or a low specced phone) and honestly that could also be Google's fault because of default settings and their propensity for memory leaks.

I would argue that it's not every iteration of android, but I get your point. I don't think you were looking for solutions, but just in case, my comment is here.

It sounds to me like he didn't ban anyone on purpose and implemented this list in lieu of blocking or banning people so that there would be no mod log paper trail. Because he is a mod and therefore could have just banned the accounts from his instance.
