What the other person said. Also, these artists would already have been on other projects. Most of them would have finished work on this movie months ago. Pixar has a stable of artists that are continually on staff for development or unreleased future projects. Some of the people let go had been there for 20 years.
And they still laid off a substantial percentage of their artists.

Not a movie, but check out the painted "Marvels" comic book mini series by Alex Ross. It's been years, but it follows a photographer who captures the beginning moments of The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man etc.
