Healthcare is the literal example of inelastic demand my prof used to teach us the concept. If you die without it, then there is no price where a reasonable actor can choose to stop participating in the market.

I do not understand Amtrak at all. The Keystone has been the absolute best thing about moving back east for me. $25 to Manhattan, grab a bagel, see a show, $25 home. And the Keystone is the crappy commuter train, the Pennsylvanian is way nicer. I've done it tons of times and it's only been late once, and no leaks on the rain.

Getting to DC costs hundreds each way and isn't any faster than driving. I'm better off buying a ticket to Baltimore and then taking the $7 commuter to DC...

Not sure about that last bit. Caffeine just makes me better able to deal with other peoples' bullshit. I can drink a cup at midnight and go right to bed with no problem whatsoever.

This is the thing. There's a spectrum between eschewing Botox and freezing your whole face, or between ignoring your skin and adhering to a 26-step Korean regimen. The problem is that when someone crosses an imaginary line and does something "noticeable" that everybody starts tut-tutting, but the line is not the same for everybody.

Pharmacy Technician is a weirdly useful certification that opens up a lot of doors. I have my current job as a healthcare analytics manager because in college I had a part -time job at Walgreens and they had a spot in the pharmacy open up. Now I manage a roll-up of 16 analysts at a charity hospital, only a handful of whom have formal degrees (and most of them got their degrees on the job so they could qualify for promotions faster).

Going to a World Cup game was on my bucket list all through my young adulthood. Now there's going to be matches a 90 minute train ride from my house and I never even considered buying a ticket. I'm going to go to a Banana Ball game instead...

It was actually Dr. Oz in the Senate race. I voted for Fetterman and don't regret my vote. However, I'll never vote for Fetterman again, and I'll likely be registering Dem just to support whoever his primary challenger is.

Powerful lobbies are surpressing the number of doctors practicing in the US. If a foreign doctor wants to emigrate and practice here they cannot until they pass TOEFL (reasonable) AND finish US-based residencies, of which there are few. I know a Russian dermatologist who has been a receptionist for years because she cannot get ECFMG certification. Some states are wising up and waiving the residencies, but way more need to do it.
