As an American, I completely agree. It's gotten so bad that this attitude has leached from the suburbs where larger homes and kitchens exist into the city where there just isn't enough space. My friends think I'm being silly for not wanting an air fryer when I already have a convection oven or an instant pot when I already have a slow cooker and pressure canner. I'm very anti single use equipment or duplicate equip for the very reason that I don't have space and it's often a waste of money. But it seems like everyone around me just buys whatever and doesn't think too much about where it's going to go or how much they will use it and I just don't understand it :/

For those curious, this is a quote taken from his interview with Channel 5 News. I personally thought it was a really sad interview that shows just how far gone this man's mind is. It doesn't excuse the things he has done, but I do feel bad for him as a former child actor who has developed mental illness like so many other former child actors.

Saw Send Help, which isn't for everyone, but it's a whole lot of fun if you're a fan of Sam Raimi.

Also went to see The Testament of Anne Lee. I went in with limited knowledge of the Shaker movement and came out asking a whole lot of questions. It's a decent film and it has lots of vibes, but it mostly just made me keep asking questions that I had to look up afterwards.

I love the movies so much. It's my favorite hobby! I never would have thought they would die out slowly like newspapers, but I'm watching it in real time. Social media has fried everyone's brains and made attention spans far too short. Every time I go to the theatre now, it's mostly empty. It's very sad to see.

I went to see the bone temple last weekend and it was just as good as the last movie! Highly recommend! But now I'm temporarily stuck at my parents house while renovations are done on my own and they insisted I watch the beanie bubble. It was ok which pretty much sums up all the things my parents like to watch these days.

This is all very well thought out and I think for the most part is true that what the original creator wanted should be respected.

    2 counter points however...

    1. Sometimes the creator comes up with a stupid name.

    2. Sometimes cultural influence is simply more powerful than the Creator's original intent. Exhibit A: everyone calls it "The Bean" and not "Cloud Gate" as named by the artist. Not an acronym, but I still think cultural influence should be considered.

Yes and it's quite amazing. Not really anything like the original other than that it involves the Oregon Trail. I forget where, but there is a video game archive that allows you to play it in browser. Was able to play it for the first time in maybe 20 years and it was a lot of fun!

As someone who's used this system a lot in the past year... I think it mostly works, but there are definitely some kinks that need to be worked out. The system works maybe 80% of the time we've used it, but the other 20% involve you needing the pen and paper to resolve an issue. There's also some annoying usability issues such as out of stock items simply not being listed instead of being labeled as out of stock causing confusion. I do wish they would implement the timed ordering system that we've seen at Emagine theaters where you can order things to be delivered half way through the movie. But it's still nice to be able to not miss anything and have a beer delivered. We'll see how the whole screen thing works out. I haven't noticed much of a problem with it at Emagine theaters, but it's also not required so likely less people use it. Anyway, I'm mostly fine with this if they can smooth out some of the kinks in the app. These days we go out of our way to go to Alamo Drafthouse so we don't have to go to the shitty AMC that's much closer. It's certainly an all around better experience regardless of this change.

This is how I feel about Breaking Bad. At first, you feel kind of bad for Walt and his situation, but that should quickly chang especially as the seasons go on and he reveals how much more of a piece of shit he really is. But I also distinctly remember as people watched the show in real-time how fans would idolize Walt. Really baffled me at the time.

It's been a very long week working 10 hours days. So I'm ending it on a a sweet note with one of my favorite dessert cocktails!

    Recipe:

    • 1 oz Bourbon
    • ¾ oz Mr. Coffee
    • ¾ oz demerara syrup
    • 1 egg yolk
    • ½ oz heavy cream (oat milk and chickpea milk work good as alternatives)
    • Nutmeg for garnish

Combine ingredients except nutmeg and dry shake (shake longer if using a milk substitute). Add ice and shake vigorously. Double strain into coup glass and grate a nutmeg on top for garnish.

My personal favorite version uses barista oat milk, but I'm sure you can use whatever milk or milk alternative you like.

I'm back from vacation and it looks like this community died while I was away 😭. Not to worry, my husband turned into a mad scientist and decided he needed to make angostura ice cream. Is it a cocktail? Probably not, but I'll let you decide. If you want to give this a try without making homemade ice cream, you can just top some vanilla ice cream in angostura bitters and enjoy!

Thanks everyone for being respectful while I was away! I need to get a new mod buddy before my next vacation 🤣. I'll post an actual real cocktail soon.

This is my husband's creation and it's quite tasty! Also I'm aware that I've posted a lot of matcha cocktails lately, but I guess that's what I've been in the mood for 🤷.

    Recipe:

    • 3/4 oz. St. George spiced pear liqueur
    • 2 oz. London dry gin
    • 3/4 oz. Honey syrup
    • 1 oz. Lemon juice
    • 1 Egg white
    • 1/4 tsp. Matcha powder
    • 1 Basil leaf for garnish

Combine ingredients in a shaker and dry shake for about 20 seconds. Add ice and shake until chilled, about 10 more seconds. Double strain into a glass and garnish with a basil leaf.

Out of all the recipes I've tried, this is my absolute favorite non-alcoholic recipe from the book Regarding Cocktails! It does contain angostura bitters, but you can leave those out if you want the drink to be 100% alcohol free. But even if you don't, it contains no more than kombucha would. Excellent recipe to make in large batches that you can add soda water to when ready to drink!

    Recipe:

    • 1 oz. Lemon juice
    • 1 oz. Pineapple juice
    • 1 oz. Ginger syrup
    • 1 Bar spoon of maple syrup
    • A dash of angostura bitters
    • 3 oz. Soda water

Combine all but the soda water and shake vigorously with ice. Strain into a Collins glass with a spear of ice and a straw. Carefully top with soda water. (There isn't a garnish in the book, but some suggestions I like to use include mint, cucumber, lemon peel, or candied ginger).
