I actually see "I am a racist" most of the time. I strongly considered buying one of these in 2020, but I didn't think I could handle the number of people who would probably not actually read it. (tbf, I pretty much look like a maga)

I've found it's almost irrelevant what the hats have of them. What these people desire is the attention it draws.

For obvious reasons most of these people would be completely unnoticed by society suddenly become the center of attention when wearing this stuff.

I've lived in a couple of countries and an interesting thing I found out is just how attuned we are for the country we grew up in to certain markers (accent, clothing, the kind of words people use, etc) of Education, Social Status, City/Countryside origin and so on, but not at all for other countries since most of these things tend to be different from country to country and it takes some time living elsewhere to start reading such things on the locals, and even longer before it becomes instinctive.

(Mind you my experience was just Europe, which can hardly be said to have a vast cultural distance between countries - I mean, it's varied but it doesn't have, say, Japan-to-India levels of contrast - and yet all 3 of the countries I live in for years - Portugal, The Netherlands and Britain - in general have significantly different cultures and vastly different markers for such things)

So it's funny how this specific item has become an amazing signal for people abroad of Uncut Low Education status for Americans.

They've really fallen off in popularity over the years. I remember back in 2017/2018, it wasn't unusual to see people wandering through downtown Houston in a hat or t-shirt, declaring their allegiance. You'd even get the odd jacked up F-350 with a giant American flag and a ton of pro-Trump graffiti just doing laps on 610 or crisscrossing downtown, particularly on national holidays or after big sporting events.

Now, I'll see a bit of that shit up in the Woodlands or our in Clear Lake. But its nearly extinct in downtown, even when there's a big gun show at the George R. Brown convention center. MAGA stock has tanked.

I just want to say, I have a pretty nice Nike cap that I got from a previous employer. It's embroidered with the company logo, but otherwise it's pretty much blank. I don't typically wear caps, but this is one of a very very small collection I have (I think it's the only one that I know where it is), when I do.

I can't wear it anymore, and I haven't been able to for years. It's red. The same bright red as the Maga caps. The company logo is white, and square on the front of it, just like where the text is on the Maga caps.

From a distance, they're indistinguishable.

I can't wear it because I don't even want to be confused for one of these Maga jerks, even from a distance. They've basically ruined red ball caps.

Instead of wearing the ball cap in summer, I went and picked up a Tilly hat. It's fine I guess. Not red, which is a big feature.

It sucks because I really like that hat. It fits well. Most Ball caps don't fit right and I'm uncomfortable. I finally found one that's not a literal pain to wear, and I can't wear it anymore because Trump.
