One library faces a $100,000 bill. Is there a way to fight back?

This is an easy solve. Just put an 'Alberta First' or similar sticker on all the books you want to not be banned, since those jags have 'Absolute Freedom of Speech' according to dear leader.

Can we have a new word that combines sarcastic and angry? Maybe our german friends can help us out?

    They allocated up to $100,000 according to the article. The real cost isn't known yet, but they are estimating it could cost up to $100,000.

    I'd like to know how that figures. The staff to do it are already being paid. I Didn't read anywhere additional staff would be required.

    The staff are already being paid to do other tasks. This would be an added responsibility, on top of the current responsibilities of their job role. So that would either take away from those original responsibilities, or add more paid hours to complete the new responsibilities. It could also mean they have to hire new staff, or bring in temporary staff to manage the responsibilities, should the other staff be unable to.

    We are getting into the realm of possibility here, since we don't know the full cost or scope.

    Adding to that, there are obvious logistics involved.

    Many libraries won't already have an area to house these books compliant with the law, so renovations may be needed to accommodate.

    Books also don't sort themselves. These need to be identified, catalogued appropriately, returns need to be separated, and so on. Libraries generally aren't swimming in free space, and complying with this could require new carts/bins.

    Like you said, most of the details aren't widely available. I could see how this would add up pretty rapidly though.
