Well, a step in the right direction... but Schumer still needs to retire already...
post
Obligatory fuck Schumer, but even for the crusty old guard corporate democrats, winning the majority is crucial. Once a progressive candidate clears the hurdle to make a challenge, they have to fall in line. It’s that slim and that uncertain.
At least for now. They’re likely planning to drown him in bribes if he wins and hope that moderates him.
Schumer's just trying to keep his job.
This is obvious, which is why it mystifies me that performative progressives online aren't celebrating that they're taking over the Democratic Party. They're winning, but they still have to be all "neither party is pure enough for me" in posts.
Democratic Socialists are doing exactly what the Tea Party and then MAGA did to the GOP. Doesn't anyone think we'll all be better off without the Neoliberal DNC and with the DS DNC?
Is there anyone who'd be upset if chuck drowned in his own piss?
The Baileys would probably be discouraged.
I'd rather he were torn apart by wild dogs, but I'd settle for piss-drowning.
What if he drowned in their piss?
Oh, you mean the guy who has been lying about a fictional couple that he thinks about when he casts his votes? Yeah, I trust him 100%.
I don't know anything about this other than Schumer being a fraudulent asshole. Vote Socialist / Leftist. Fuck Dems. And if Schumer is right about this person / anything, it's by accident or a lie.
“What people don’t understand is that a big tent is a strength, not a weakness,” Schumer said.
Wow, Charlie. Nobody understood that until you explained it to us. What a fucking political thinker.
He needs him to vote for him for senator majority leader. After that he will shit all over him.
I am hoping that anyone left of center finally learned their lesson from the last election. Vote with your heart in the primaries but come election time join hands with those closest to you and present a united front. Republicans are idiots but even they understand this. I voted for Sayed and I'm happy he won, but if it was Stevens I'd be getting behind her as well.
Good job. You're keeping Dems in power, ensuring they never have to change. I hate the current admin being in power and making people I care about at risk. It's the fault of Dems, not Leftists who want actual change.
You could have just said you haven't learned yet.
Have you ever considered the reason we are here is because you haven’t learned yet?
I am absolutely one of the reasons we are here. I voted third party in a swing state in 2016.
Vote as far left on every ballot but vote for the candidate that actually has a chance. It's that simple for me.
I too want the party pulled left. And the time to do that is in the primaries, which is exactly whats happening now.
How’d that primary strategy work out in 2024?
You are voting 3rd party in the primary but somehow fail to realize GOP and DNC are owned by the same interest. The illusion in the cave is that you think the DNC is left. (You call the DNC left of center above).
Voting to center right (DNC) when you want to be left of center will never shift American politics left. Trump is the boogeyman that gets you to abandon what you claim to stand for (progressivism).
MAGA co-opted the GOP by refusing to compromise. This shifted the GOP even further right. When progressives compromise the entire American political spectrum bell curve just shifts further right.
I understand that you think your approach will produce an immediate harm reduction. I am sure it will look that way, but the steady march to the right won’t stop if the left side of the spectrum caves while the right does not
You're wrong about your history in a number or ways, and superglue has the right idea. You're seeing the Democrats being pulled to the left right now, this very minute, and you still want to shoot yourself in the foot, and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
If you can't distinguish between the evils of the GOP and the lesser evils of the Democrats, you're morally non-functional.
What history? Be specific.
Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in what battle? I am not in your far right vs center right fight.
I obviously can distinguish between the GOP and DNC (my comment said if things changed it would appear to be an improvement).
The reality of arguing that the left needs to compromise and embrace the “lesser evils” of the DNC in the face of the evils of the GOP is that it hands the GOP a cudgel. Don’t propose ideas that are too left or the right will lash out. Meanwhile, the right has been orchestrating a conservative backslide for decades.
I do enjoy a good personal attack when one side can’t formulate anything of substance to say. If it makes you feel better to call me morally bankrupt, you can have it.
The thing is, what passes for the left in America has been compromising its values for decades. That is the constant drum beat. And here we are. Explain, why more of the same will change course.
Blah blah American Left is Actually Right blah blah, heard it all before. All of that is an oblivious response to precisely what I said, that actual Leftists are winning elections and primaries and running as Democrats. You're currently taking over the party and you want to, what, complain that you have to? Is it too much for you?
If you want the takeover to continue, you keep backing Democrats so that every cycle, you can pull it further and further left, it's that fucking simple. Online progressives are the most ADHD political thinkers in the damned world. You are busy taking a party over: finish the job, and part of finishing the job is not sabotaging the party for not being where you want it yet.
“Actual leftists are taking over the dem party” -is that because progressives backed dems no matter what or is it because they held out? -currently taking over the party… are you a goldfish? How long is your memory? Whether these short term recent wins translate into a takeover remains to be seen. -if you want the take over to continue continue taking every DNC candidate to the mat and when they try to use the DNC machine to manipulate outcomes punish them for it.
I do not agree that putting a DNC dem in power moves the system left. You need that assumption to make your position make sense. If that’s not true your argument falls apart. I believe it’s not true.
My final thought… I am clearly not part of your party. The two party system forces people who think other than red or blue to crawl into the husk of one of those positions to participate in the system. If we ever get to a point where we break the two party system it is likely that DEMs and the GOP are both the opposition for the left.
The left is clearly taking over the Democratic Party: Mamdani and AOC are bigger kingmakers than Schumer or Jeffries. The job now is to do everything in your power to continue that ascension. You do that by voting your conscience in the primaries, to put leftists on the ballot, and then vote the party for the election, whoever you have.
The GOP used to be a oligarch-favoring-but-mostly-rational party. A party that could feel shame enough to demand Nixon resign. It was the work of decades to make it what it is today. The Democratic Party used to be union-focused, and got sold off starting with Clinton. It has been a generation going the wrong way, but it can be pulled back. To do so, you have to influence the party with good candidates and public pressure, and that doesn't happen when you just throw up your hands and curse them all.
Most of the failures of the Democrats of the past couple decades has been media incompetence, and never having more than a sliver of power. Voters have given them razor thin majorities a couple of times, and that results in empowering folks like Sinema and Fetterman and nothing else. They then get punished for not having been strong enough to do more than they did. You have to keep at it. When you keep at it, you get progress, incremental improvement. When you immediately take your ball and go home, the GOP comes in to undo everything the Dems managed to do.
You're not getting a third party. You're just not. It is vastly easier to shape the Democrats back into being the party of the New Deal and the Great Society, than it would be to build a viable third party. It is just structurally impossible.
I do actually think their heart is in the right place. Sadly, that place is in a reality they want to exist, but doesn't. Every time I engage even a little with them I get paragraphs of mental gymnastics. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.
I’m worried about Democrats’ new (old) direction of not being the loser party. Who body-snatched Chuck?
I'm glad that the shift towards more progressive politics is being accepted by the establishment. It just makes sense even from a purely rational view of "my side wins", and if that's what it takes to enable actual change then so be it, regardless of what kind of politician chuck is on his own right.
