Do monotherapy. Anything less is poisoning you with the first pass. Estrogen isn't oral for cis women... Expecting pills to do the same as patches and injections isn't reasonable or rational. Your prescriber should know this. Don't spend years being unhappy with your results. Also, your hair can grow back if the follicles aren't too far gone from dht. Minoxidil and monotherapy together are often a miracle for younger people. Me? I waited too long. Look at my feed and pics. I'm still feminizing greatly but bald af. Don't be me and wait to be happy with your looks. A cis growth timeline is your right. Low E and masc T levels are the doctors fault.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the only permanent solutions a transplant or stemcell "therapy"? To my knowledge, medication only help while you take it. Of course, if it works and you're willing to keep taking it, go for it! I'm just turning 38 and I'm going for wigs soon. Until then, I'm doing a Meredith.
I assume OP is aware HRT is for life :p
You're not wrong, other than hair plugs any existing treatment for androgenic hair loss will only remain effective while you're taking it consistently. Fortunately anything that suppresses testosterone necessarily reduces androgenic balding effects, so the HRT we're gonna be taking anyway already does at least part of the job.
this is incorrect. androgenic hair loss is permanently restorable if you remove the androgens. that snippet about it only staying as long as you continue treatment only applies to cis men, you know people with a bunch of androgens. once you remove them and the process stops, the hair wont automatically come back, but estrogen and minoxidil will make your hair come back, and after a year or two you can stop minoxidil and the results should stay, provided you keep suppressing testosterone by taking estrogen, which you're probably going to do anyway.
Everyone naturally produces testosterone, cis women can and do experience androgenic alopecia, the only way to guarantee a zero testosterone level for anyone without consistent medication would be removal of the hormone producing organs surgically, which nobody anywhere recommends as a treatment for hair loss, and which would also still require either HRT or some other medication to compensate for bone density loss, so one way or the other you're gonna be maintaining treatment to keep your hair.
You can keep/regrow your hair and do monotherapy! I didn't start HRT til I was 35 and had already lost a lot, noticed it started regrowing slowly within the first 3 months or so, new growth sped up noticeably as I increased dosage and swapped to injections. I decided to try and speed it up more with minoxidil which is also working well, depending on how things go I might try finasteride or whatever the other one is called for long-term maintenance.
ive been on estrogen injections and oral minoxidil/finasteride. every time i bring it up people say finasteride is unnecessary if you have low testosterone, but idk it cant hurt right lol.
im honestly amazed at how much my hair has come back though. i had a vegeta hair line and the start of a bald patch in the back, and the patch on the back has completely filled in and i have much less of a widows peak. ive been trying microneedling with one of the pens on my scalp and ive even got some little baby hair coming back that would eventually make a straight hairline like i had before puberty. i just cant wait for it to get long already.
Fuck yeah, congrats on progress! I'm in a similar boat, topical minoxidil no finasteride yet, and also pretty thrilled with my results. Two years in my widow's peaks have almost entirely filled in and I can see the baby hairs up front rebuilding my hairline, at this rate it won't be another two years before I'm back to how it looked in high school! Finasteride may or may not be necessary/helpful, another ymmv thing that depends on your level of androgen sensitivity, I've been meaning to get a prescription to test it out but I forgot to bring it up at my last follow up appt because I'm ADHD as fuck and smoke too much weed lol
