Crazy to say this isn't being productive, just because you're not getting yelled at by middle management or sucked into hour long office meetings during it.

People ITT missing the point. Productivity isn't the goal. Some people struggle with getting things done, but when you frame it as "small tasks that don't matter" it can be easier to handle.

Im missing the point of your comment, either productivity isn't the goal or it is. If the point is making tasks easier to handle, that's a productivity goal.
The goal is small tasks, productivity is a byproduct. It's a framing issue.
Okay but small productivity is productivity, you're disagreeing with OP which is fine but you're not getting what OP is saying either.
Frame it however you want, you're concerned with getting the small tasks done. That's not what OP is saying.
I did not disagree with OP.
Your comments do
Okay well have fun not understanding OP
sweet irony, like delicious honey
I've never heard anyone say puttering instead of pottering, but my dictionary tells me that the u version is the original, US version.
I think this is what people used to do before they were zoned out on their phone for hours on end, and it surely helped their sanity.
I kinda hate using my phone when I am home. Technology is awesome, but tech companies have become a blight on humanity that somehow manages to get more malignant every single year.
this is my ideal state of existence. unfortunately, I hardly ever have the time.
Today I pulled the agitator off my 50s era washing machine to clean under it so I can do my laundry, I sprayed some rainwater over the wild-grow area of my lawn to hopefully give it a boost, and I cleaned the toilet.
I'm still puttering around but have yet to soup it up.
oh my god I just realized mid sentence I've only eaten a single cookie since Sunday and I am starving...
All the described puttering examples are productive, but only for yourself, which The Man has convinced us isn't actual productivity.
Kinda crazy how much shit this post is getting in the comments. You can take 5 minutes to organize a shelf a little. You can take 5 minutes to dust some picture frames.
I think OP has "productivity" linked to making money. Yes cleaning your house IS a form of productivity, you just don't make any money from it.
But sure let's argue semantics and shit on a post trying to be positive and some might find helpful.
Okay I know there's such a thing as frozen soup, but it still looks bizarre AF to suggest thawing out soup when it usually comes in a can.
Sorting my mail is one of my most stressful activities after meetings with my boss.
So, do you people have like, 4 hour jobs? If so, that is neat.
Or disability.
What is that like?
