There's no detail on whether both the 12 GB / 8 GB models or one of those will be produced

If it is the 8GB model, just keep what you have and don't buy it. Even for 1080p gaming, 8GB just doesn't cut it anymore.

    I have an 8GB 3070 and it's doing just fine.

    I mean, like most reviewers they test their games at ultra/very high to isolate the GPU performance. But realistically you shouldn't be expecting to run those settings at 1440p/4K for a budget card like this.

    More 8GB cards sucks if that's what gets released, but it's not like you can't game at all without more VRAM. Just turn down your settings till a better deal comes along.

    I am really glad I bought a 3080 back in late 2020. It looks like I will be using for a few more years. Thankfully I am not really GPU bound in gaming (I play mostly strategy games) or my encoding/video upscaling hobby (all done on CPU for best possible quality to size ratio).

    As long as the price is right, this could be good. Maybe cheaper than the RTX 5050?
