After what was probably between 20 and 40 years of my Scout troop not cleaning their stoves, I decided to have a go at one of them. To put things simply, this is the result. I probably messed up, the degreaser was supposed to be completely biodegradable/paint safe, so I don't know if this is the result of the serious grease buildup (there was a disgusting amount) or my own stupidity. Either way, I have two options. Tossing it and replacing it, or attempting to refinish it. I read online about refinishing them and a I got the impression that I could just strip it down and use a heat resistant/rust resistant paint. Obviously it wouldn't be as good as the powder coating, but my question is if it would work at all? If so, where can I find some paint online? Everywhere I looked either has super pricey paint or the wrong color, which I suppose I could resort to if needed.
