Both new from windows, I have had no issues with mint but he has now switched to Debian cause he was having issues getting discord to work properly. OOTB experience with mint is it works, it kinda feels like cheating having a distro that works easily without tinkering. Like I don't feel like a real Linux user haha, but I would 100% recommend it.
