Windows XP is probably still good to use just with a decent router. most router firewalls are good enough on there own to keep out nasties. The latest web-browser you can run on Windows XP is probably 10 years out of date by now and riddled with exploits, same with network share protocols, printer drives, etc. Your router will not protect you of attacs using port 443 or 80.
