A water company has been given funding to improve the quality of rivers with the help of AI.

Northumbrian Water has been awarded funding from water regulator Ofwat to work with IT firm Cognizant to track river health trends and pollution patterns.

The money is part of the Ofwat Innovation Fund, which is a £200m project to grow the water sector’s capacity in England and Wales.

Northumbrian Water said reducing river pollution was one of the "biggest challenges" it faced.

Jfc, how about instead they invest some fucking money in to, I don't know, stopping polluting?

(and no, I don't believe they're tracking it to somehow help pinpoint any leaks so they can fix them, I don't have a single doubt in my mind that they already know exactly where it is they're letting raw sewerage in to the environment from, they just don't give a fuck, and are more than happy to take this bullshit fund so both them and ofwat can pretend to be acting for a couple of years at our expense before they actually have to do anything about it)
