Im certain cases, not having a car makes sense. Especially when you do not carry much stuff and in cities.

For instance, driving in Jerusalem is so bad that it could be a replacement for a prison. In addition, distances in cities aren't that large and you usually do not carry a lot of things, so public transport/cycling/walking is more advantageous.

On the other hand, when you have to get to some remote places, such as skiing resorts, camps, etc. cars are just great
