[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 54 points 2 years ago (3 children) There was a movie in the 1970s about a dystopian future where there was not enough food to go around. The main food company was named Soilent. So it was coming out with a new product that would end hunger. It was made out of algae, and it was called Soilent Green. Charleston Heston was the hero of the movie and he broke into the factory and figured out that it was actually made from dead people. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] Lazarus@kbin.social 10 points 2 years ago Thank you :) And holy shit what a movie… permalink fedilink source parent [–] samus12345@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago (1 child) It was spelled Soylent, just like this product. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Muehe@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago (1 child) And it's made of soy and lentils, hence the name. At least it was in the novel the film was (loosely) based on. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] samus12345@lemmy.world 1 point 2 years ago (1 child) And the movie added the "Green" for some reason. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Muehe@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago IIRC there were two variants in the movie and the "green" variant based on humans was added as a new product because the production couldn't keep up with population increase. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 years ago (2 children) The movie was called the ten commandments btw. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] samus12345@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago "Get your paws off me, you damn dirty god!" permalink fedilink source parent [–] redknight942@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 years ago That man?
