akincisor comments on Pipepipe is an amazing newpipe fork(which is a youtube client) that constantly recieves updates and is stable and relaible.I didn't see much love for this app anywhere so thought i should promote it.

I definetly recommend it. It also has many more settings , features than newpipe . It is in the main repo . Just search pipepipe .

Newpipe is not being rewritten. They have chosen to do progressive improvements instead:

The source you linked even says they are going to rewrite the app piece by piece and it will be slow .
