The figure of Santa originated from Odin. To make the figure a demi god it makes it a demotion.

Now that I'm recalling the books, he is revealed to be Odin at a later point. Or, at least, nobody saw him and Odin in the same room

Legally they're two separate entities, cause as Odin Mab would have to wait at his pleasure but as Kringle she outranks him.
