And that's the kind of rare steak you'll get not only in Italy, but also in France, UK and elsewhere. We also have dishes like tartare and carpaccio which are just straight raw meat. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Lime66@lemmy.world 1 point 3 years ago (1 child) Ummm almost every restaurant overcooks their steak in the UK unless they're a steakhouse so I don't know what you're talking about permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Aux@lemmy.world [S] 1 point 3 years ago Well, I guess you're choosing the wrong restaurants... permalink fedilink source parent [+] Daisyifyoudo@lemmy.world -10 points 3 years ago (2 children) That's disgusting. And I'm not saying that from personal preference, I'm saying that from a modern understanding of food borne illness and parasites. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Aux@lemmy.world [S] 6 points 3 years ago That's totally fine and safe in countries with high quality food and high standards of husbandry. permalink fedilink source parent [–] benpo@lemm.ee 2 points 3 years ago (2 children) Nope, it's completely fine to eat cow or horse meat cooked like that (but not ovines, pigs or birds). It's very common in Italy. Never heard of food poisoning from this kind of meat. I do hear of food poisoning from chicken meat or seafood, though, as they are more prone to host dangerous parasites. I would still carefully select the meat vendor or restaurant, though. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Daisyifyoudo@lemmy.world -2 points 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago) That is categorically untrue. And I can send you as many links as you like refuting that primitive understanding of what commonly exists in undercooked or raw meat. You can minimize the dangers with freshly slaughtered meat and good husbandry practices but there are unequivocal dangers to eating raw meat. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Aux@lemmy.world [S] -4 points 3 years ago (1 child) Raw pork and raw duck are also fine. Some seafood is fine too. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Daisyifyoudo@lemmy.world -1 points 3 years ago That's one of the most ignorant things I've ever read. permalink fedilink source parent [+] Decoy321@lemmy.world -3 points 3 years ago (2 children) [deleted] permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Cabrio@lemmy.world 4 points 3 years ago (1 child) It's bleu not rare. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Aux@lemmy.world [S] 1 point 3 years ago Once again, it is rare in Europe.
