[–] pianoplant@lemmy.world 100 points 2 years ago (2 children) Yeah... It's a single vehicle used at special events and stuff to bring awareness to the problem of drinking and driving. permalink fedilink source hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Wrench@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago (3 children) Seems like a waste of resources. Clever, but wasteful permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] jaschen@lemm.ee 19 points 2 years ago (3 children) I disagree. How much is a simple wrap job? 1500? If they save 1 life or even prevent 1 accident, it's already worth it. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] Wrench@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 child) And taking a car out of their fleet. Thats not some old retired interceptor. So, I don't know what a modded car costs them, but 60k? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] jaschen@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago It's not sunk cost outside of the wrap. If it's not a successful campaign the only thing lost is the 1500 bucks. If it's successful then $60,000 is nothing compared to a human life. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Meho_Nohome@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 years ago (1 child) That's about a $55,000 vehicle. Also, how is it going to save a life? Do you think someone is going to look at that car and then think back to that when they're drunk and remember seeing a half police car half cab and decide not to drive? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] jaschen@lemm.ee 1 point 2 years ago Nah, they take a cruiser off the fleet and wrap it. The vehicle can return back to the fleet after the campaign. The only thing lost is the 1500 wrap. Maybe for you, it might not influence you to not drive drunk, but you're not everyone. In advertising, this is what we call impressions and awareness. Just the fact that we are talking about it right now makes it a successful campaign. permalink fedilink source parent [–] badbytes@lemmy.world -1 points 2 years ago (2 children) Prob should factor in cost of vehicle, as it is a bit wasted. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] jaschen@lemm.ee 7 points 2 years ago The car is taken out of the fleet. Used as a reminder to take a cab. I would include the cost of the cruiser because if the campaign doesn't work the vehicle just goes back to the fleet, no harm done. permalink fedilink source parent [–] yacht_boy@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (1 child) Good to know my life isn't worth as much as as a car. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago Welcome to America ¿ permalink fedilink source parent [–] pianoplant@lemmy.world 15 points 2 years ago Idk would you rather they spend the money on military-grade swat equipment? Lots to pick at here but overall an example of outreach instead of enforcement, which is a win in my book. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Anticorp@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 years ago (1 child) Not to mention but they're basically putting advertising for a corporation on the police cars. Yellow Cab is a specific company, not just a general reference to taxi cabs. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] yokonzo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 child) Unless yellow cab paid for the car permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Anticorp@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago* That would be even worse.
