Definitely out of reach for the rest of us. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [+] immelody@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) [deleted] permalink fedilink source parent [–] nagaram@piefed.social 5 points 3 days ago I knew a guy with the shittiest private island. He said it cost him $20,000 USD its in Canada, had enough room for a cabin that was just a shed with a queen mattress in it and a boat dock. He showed me a video of him trying to enjoy it in summer and it was just CONSTANT heavy winds. He said he had to soundproof the cabin and goes there to read and write. If he wants to feel the wind he has to wear hearing protection and a jacket no matter the time of year. I never thought I'd feel bad for someone who owns an island. Still first world problems galore, but $20k is very affordable for a piece of land. permalink fedilink source parent [–] smiletolerantly@awful.systems 4 points 4 days ago (2 children) Is there actual REQUIRED upkeep though or could you say fuck it, and go ashore with a tent, row boat and the freshwater and food required for a week? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] nagaram@piefed.social 4 points 3 days ago Living in Kentucky, we have a lot of mountainous land that's kinda useless for anything except hunting and camping. Would I be allowed: my blood glucose monitor? (It's dead weight without a device reading it, but it does have a battery and it's glued to/pricked into my arm) a stand-alone device reading values from it? (Think esp32 with a shitty 1.4" display) since I don't actually own that, my phone for the sole purpose of reading my blood glucose? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 child) Can it run doom? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] smiletolerantly@awful.systems 2 points 4 days ago No :( permalink fedilink source parent [–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 1 point 4 days ago I'd like to know who and where in case we go hungry, please and thank you. permalink fedilink source parent [–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 1 point 4 days ago (2 children) Detox policy?
