What's a good guitar to go with a Fender Mustang 90? (lemmy.world)

As the title says, I currently own a Fender Mustang 90 which I absolutely love. Sometimes I like to fantasize about getting a second guitar, to go with it in order to cover more tonal ground and try different things. I'm bouncing between jazzmasters, teles, starts style guitars and can't make up my mind. So my question, what would you pick? My favourite genre is fuzz rock - so the mustang is perfect for that - but who knows I might expand my horizons

The right answer is always "whatever guitar is gonna make you play more".
For example, I lately bought my first headless guitar, an Hils HNT1 to be precise. I didn't get it for the sound, I already have more than one telecaster iterations, I got it as a couch guitar and for when I travel. It's so light and compact that is impossible not to pick it up every time I walk by it.

If you want to learn more instead, get yourself a cheap building kit, a fret rocker, a fret-end file and a Frtlzr system. Follow a tutorial somewhere on setup and basic fretwork and make the best you can get out of that guitar (I assure you that is much more than you expect).
You won't spend more than 300$ and you'll end up with another guitar, a great learning experience and some tools you can use to get the most out of the guitars you already have.

    The technical side of guitars is something I'm interested in actually, so the kit might be a great idea

    If you decide to go this route, the kits from Harley Benton are a no-brainer. If you like fuzz, something with humbuckers might suit your needs.
    And learning how to do a proper setup is as important as building the kit itself (if not more), so if you don't have it, you will need to get something to measure your string action, I use a machinist ruler, but there are also action gauges that make the job easy. You will also need a capo and feeler gauges to measure the neck relief.
    Everything else like screwdrivers and Allen wrenches are something that you probably already have and as I said there are plenty tutorials on how to use all of these tools for a setup.
    With a small investment you'll be able to adjust all of your instruments, making them more comfortable to play and allowing you to play for longer periods without fatigue.

    The next step, as I said, would be doing a basic fretwork. That is going to bring your guitar to an even higher level, but that is a process that if done wrong can ruin your instrument, so if you don't have a lot of experience working on guitars I'd wait until you can at least do a setup with ease.
