This warming effect first became visible around 2013-2014. As much as i hate that orange menace, this thing was already happening before him. It'll take several years, if not a decade for his actions to show their effect on the climate. The researchers describe the broader shift as beginning around 2015, when the evidence became clearer. Further in the article they point out, that they don't have an explanation yet, but they do mention that the models occasionally show that kind of effect.
