Everyday shower habits, such as applying shampoo or pausing the water while washing, are driving up water waste, argues a new study from the University of Surrey.

The article mentions keeping the water running while lathering shampoo increases water usage.

It sounds like the pausing comment is when showers are interrupted, causing them to be longer overall.

But either way, household water usage is a minor blip compared to industrial and agricultural water usage. And I really do not like the negative way it talks about more enjoyable showers taking longer
