I think they just don't outright spell it out for people but Hank is routinely proven to be wrong and sensitive in his own way. His ideals are constantly rubbed in his face.

He's American, respects freedom, wants conformity so much so he judges others for simply using a different heating source.

He thinks people should handle their shit but is massively insecure.

I can see how people miss it but he's literally the biggest snowflake ever and Bobby who I think is the shows counter to Hank is routinely the toughest cookie in the room.
