I'm just not wired that way. I've achieved my career goals — any further and I get further from what I enjoy about building software. I just want to help everyone achieve their best at this point.
More money is always nice, but I have enough to enjoy life, and what I really enjoy is helping others and the best way I can do that is share my thirty years of experience. But people come with their egos and ambition and I'm not about that.
I'm on my deck with a cigar and jalapeño martini and the love of my life at my side and no one can take any of that from me, so I'm not in competition with anyone.
Thank you for the perspective, though. I chose not to be so cynical because I don't want to live in that world, but when I am confronted with such disappointment, it is a bit of a shock.
