This isn't a finger removal kind of situation. If you tried it I predict you'll wind up with a lot of duds and a lot of failures to feed, and you'll get crud all over your gun. You may also wind up dealing with a bunch of split brass, and have difficulties ejecting the empties. The biggest danger is going to be hang fires, where the damp powder partially ignites and you're never quite sure if or when the rest of it is actually going to go off. Looking down the barrel to check it out like Elmer Fudd in that situation is not a wise proposition.

Getting wet and rusty is not going to magically make the cartridges any more powerful or go bang any better.

No, I'd rather knock the bullets out and melt down the lead to use for something else, and torch the powder a bit at a time in the fire pit.
