I don’t follow uefa very closely — could Pep fix what’s broken about Italy?

Doubt it. Italy’s issues run deeper than what their national team shows.

Calcio hasn’t been really competitive in the last 15 years. Last time an Italian team won an UEFA tournament was in 2010 (Inter Milan). Since then, only three teams have made it to the finals: Inter, Juve, and Roma.

This wouldn’t be too much of an issue if Italy didn’t rely so heavily on players from their domestic leagues, but they do, thus the decline of their national team could be directly tied to the decline of Calcio in general. Guardiola wouldn’t fix that.
