Why is hearing voices always depicted as driving someone into madness? If people were a little more relaxed about, it they could stop themselves from spiraling out of control. Take a step back, tame your inner voices and make them work for you. The abyss is looking back? Good. Take a deep look and learn about yourself, because when you look in the mirror, despite everything, it's still you. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Dojan@pawb.social 5 points 3 days ago* Isn't that mostly in the line of intrusive thoughts, though? Like having a little voice in your head that goes "damn girl u hot today" sounds nice, but when you have impulses like, "aww look, my dog is sleeping, I SHOULD FUCKING CHOKE HIM OUT AND DUMP HIM OUT THE WINDOW" that's... less welcome. The voices depicted in stories are never pleasant and that's why people get distressed over them. I've a friend who lives with hallucinations. It's not so much that they struggle telling what's a hallucination and what's reality apart, it's more that they get in the way. They know that the forest that's replaced their hallway and has panicked animals running through it isn't real, but that doesn't make it less stressful. permalink fedilink source parent
