When we got sick of our contractor, I interviewed three others. I just had them walk through the house and tell me what they thought was wrong - what was an easy fix, and what needed to be completely redone. I had everything from round lights that were put in square holes so little corners were visible (pretty quick and easy fix) to a shower that didn't slope towards the drain and had to be completely jackhammered out, repour concrete, and retile. When you get a new contractor you're going to find that the bad things you can see are just the beginning of it. We found short pieces of electrical wire twisted together laying bare in the insulation in our attic and plumbing lines that were the wrong color because they ran out of red and didn't want to go to the store. Sticking with an asshole is just throwing good money after bad. You're paying way too much and they're making way too much to fuck it up and not take responsibility.
