It’s been five years since the summer of 2020, when land defenders first blockaded roads in this same stretch of forest and set off what’s now recognized as the largest act of civil disobedience in Canadian history — more than 1,100 arrests over two years, foot chases through the bush, helicopters, pepper spray, a movement that came to be known by the name of the watershed next door: Fairy Creek.
