Great take, as usual!

I hadn't thought of how they're traditionally funded. In this case however Makanto is supplying their own scientists as hidden authors, which seems a bit more shafy

    Hey don't get me wrong, if we could live in a world where all research could be paid for by those that don't stand to gain from particular results, I'd be there! But yeah, it's not this world.

    In this case though, the more I hear about this (over what must have been at least the last 10 years) it just seems to get worse. I would not be surprised if this turns into one of those situations where it's actually way worse than we know and the manufacturer knew all along.
