How to best stitch on normal fabric (feddit.org)

I have a normal white skirt and would like to stitch some patterns from a cross stitch book on it. It's made up of normal fabric, not cross stitch cloth. Are there any tips and tricks on how to cross stitch on clothes?

You can buy something called water soluble canvas, which has the cross stitch grid. In my country I have only found 14 count.

I recommend basting it on, and then starting in the middel so it don't shift while you stitch.

When you are done you just wash it.

I have made these pants using that

There is also something called waste canvas which you pull out after you are done stitching. But I don't have personal experience with that.

    Edit: Found it. For any German on here looking for the same, it's called "wasserlösliche Stickfolie" :).

    Those pants look awesome! Do you do anything special for washing them or does the stitching hold up pretty well?

    I just wash them normally at 30°C and hang dry. I'm pretty sure i did the loop-start and then just weaving the thread under when ending, but a bit more than usual, but nothing else to protect it. And they look just as good now 3 years later.
